well with a 6 speed that could help.. as someone said low flow exhaust or duals (Dodge) would help.. how much does it take to move a plastic truck down the highway??

Um, this is an improvement for Ford. I don't know about any of you but I think this smart to make the most fuel efficient truck in its class.

The Cobalt/G5 XFE are standard on all 2.2/5MT-equipped Cobalts/G5s. Same goes for all Silverados, Sierras, Tahoes, and Yukons in 2WD with the 5.3/6AT (according to the GM release). All models with those features will be "XFEs". GM won't be charging more for the XFE treatment.

Ford, however, will be charging $1095 for base XL models, and nothing for XLTs.

I am well aware of the low rolling resistance concept, however I was pointing out a typo.

Let me know when you are able to mount a 16" tire on a 18" wheel.

mulletmaster says:
“chrome 18 inch wheels with low rolling resistance P265/60R-16 tires bump fuel economy up from 14/19″
The difference in tire and wheel size must create some sort of net forward force vector resulting in free energy.

----

OR, the low rolling resistance tires, hmm, roll with less resistance, thus improving fuel economy. Ya think?

Nah, that's cool. I'm glad you responded with humor and fun, because I hate when people get all stuffy and offended. These places are for opinions, and it's good to share them. We all learn from each other. It's not a waste of time at all.

I actually read the post through, and you're right, it is a marketing ploy. It's unfortunate that anyone would need to resort to such tactics in order to sell cars. However, people are buying heavily on the criteria of MPG at this time, and in order to get a piece of that pie, these guys have to make this type of adjustment and then advertise the hell out of them. The Big 3 have a reputation to destroy, and that reputation is that they only make big pig cars. For many years, that was true. So now, GM has ads on the radio talking about the "future of driving technology" with music that sounds like something out of an Apple commercial.

Oh, and sorry for thinking your blog post was an article. It looks pretty official.

But your posts need to start learning to respect you more. Those disrespectful posts...

beater, I prefer to get respect FOR my posts. I'm not interested in getting respect from the posts. They aren't capable of respecting, because they're posts. Since you like lists:

1) the whole point of an opinion is to express a bias supported by facts
2) I dont write articles, its (*gasp*) a blog and you're more than welcome to be my editor, I can't afford one.

To bring it full circle and keep it relevant (gosh is that spelled right?) to this post, many comments on many blogs express a bias. I'm biased towards japanese vehicles partly because they don't create BS trim levels like XFE and SFE to raise the marketed fuel economy of a car.

I invite you to contact me privately to continue this discussion, my information is on my site. I'm sorry for wasting everyone else's time, this was not my intent.

Hey, Weakonomist, if you're going to get respect from your articles:

1) Get rid of the obvious bias, and

2) Proofread and eliminate the poor spelling. "it requires more breaking to stop." I hope that doesn't mean the car must fall apart in order to stop... They are "brakes", not "breaks." Tough break.

They should go back to shorter leaf springs, un-boxed frame rails, smaller bolts for the bed and 5 lug wheels. Also air bags are heavy and dont do anything for MPG, loose them to.

What an absolute waste. You could put an intake and high-flow exhaust on any current truck and get 3-5MPG improvement for way less than $1000... more performance too. I can't believe that people are falling for this... well, wait... yes I can.
