Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Crew Cab [Spied again]

10/27/2009, 11:37 AM

By Drew Johnson

The 2010 F-150 SVT Raptor is one of the most unique truck offering on the market today, but it is also rather limited by its unique cab configuration. Available only in extended SuperCab trim, Ford has been fielding numerous requests for a crew cab model.

Mark Grueber, Ford’s marketing manager, said, “We’ve had requests for a crew cab. We haven’t made any decisions but there’s some demand for it.”

Well, it looks like that decision has been made and it’s a go for production, judging from this spy shot of a Raptor test truck with four full-size doors. Despite it’s camo and the fake rear roof, you can’t miss the Raptor’s big 35-inch wheels and tires, the unique mesh grille with “FORD” emblazoned across it and even the red leather hash mark at twelve-o’clock high on the steering wheel indicating the front wheels are straight.

Hardcore off-road enthusiasts may have reservations about a 145-in. long-wheelbase Raptor that’s certain to compromise desert-running and rock-crawling performance for extra interior space, but those with large families or the need to transfer crews of four or five adults into the wilderness are likely to appreciate it. At the SuperCab’s launch earlier this summer, Ford emphasized that the Raptor has been engineered for off road driving on fire roads and mud pits, where the longer wheelbase could have some advantages.

We think it will bow for the 2011 model year with only the new 6.2-liter V8 engine.

Spied? How the hell can you miss this monstrosity when it heads at you on the road? You spy Mini or MiTO; this can be seen from the moon.

Oh c’mon Ford, don’t get caught up in your own hype. You can probably count on one hand the number of people who want a crew version of this because the longer wheelbase might have advantages under certain conditions. The rest want it because it looks cool and the 4 doors make it more practical. So just give them what they want- a Raptor appearance package… just the wheels, the trim and especially that grill. Sure it’s sacrilege but who gives a sh*t… a sale is a sale.

I’ve already accepted the fact that most Raptors probably will never see any mud, dirt, dust, or sand. So I’m actually ok with a crew cab version. Why pretend people?

I agree with the appearance package. How much is the Raptor over the regular F150? Cut that difference in half and offer a similar appearance package, maybe call it the Bold. That would be more profitable, because then they wouldn’t have to spend the money on the expensive performance parts, and people will pay for the looks.

johnnycanuck: They are not doing this under any hype-frenzy, they have had significant numbers of customers clearly requesting the crew-cab.

What a stupid, useless, ugly, horrid “truck”.

This monstrosity, along with the current ‘JC Whitney special” really show how out of touch with reality Ford really is.

Hopefully the CC Raptor will be able to haul more than the 800 pounds the regular Raptor can.

*FORDMAN* Fords suck? Thats why the f-150 is the best selling VEHICLE on the planet. BIC towing, BIC payload, ya know the stuff that matters when buying a truck. 34 years straight isnt a coicidence its an accomplishment.

This truck is impressive but is already too wide to fit on most trails and a quad cab will make it too long maneuver on trails. So its pretty much a desert only racer. That’s still impressive but now they need to make one about the size of a regular full size truck and make them in 2 door single cab with a short bed or step side so it get around the trails It would also look more sporty. extented cabs and quad cabs are a little boring looking.
