Ford F-150 to feature diesel in 2009

07/02/2007, 12:23 PM

By Andrew Ganz

As previously reported, Ford may be the first carmaker to introduce a diesel motor in a light-duty pickup truck. The F-150, a perennial bestseller, is rumored to get a diesel engine for 2009, making it the first vehicle in its class to get diesel power.

According to AutoWeek, Ford would launch a 4.4-liter V8 diesel motor, a larger version of the 3.6-liter V8 some markets get in the Land Rover Range Rover. Ford and diesel engine manufacturer International Truck and Engine Corp., the blue oval’s current diesel engine manufacturer, have had strained relations since earlier this year over quality and warranty issues. It is expected that Ford would produce the 4.4-liter V8 in Mexico for the F-150 and, possibly, the Expedition.

International and Nissan have apparently been in talks about producing diesel engines for the Titan pickup, although no further details are known.

I really hope this move works well for Ford. How sweet would it be to have a 4.4L turbo diesel in a regular cab, short bed 2WD F-150 .

^ ^ What? I’m a Ford fan and i dont think i’ve heard of 3.6 liter V8 engine used by Ford or any other Ford-owned companies. Maybe its for European models that we don’t get in USA.

Anyways….. sweet! About damn time! Now kill that dumb 5.4L V8 engine and use the 4.4L diesel engine across the trim line!! Yeah, keep the V6 for base model. The combinded MPG for F-150 lineup is gonna kill all of the competitiors!

If they match the right engines with progressive styling, they’ll solidify this segment for the next five years.
