ford needs to get rid of the v6 in the trucks and put in the 6.2, the 6.2 might not do as good on mileage but i would prefer to have the 6.2 then the 5.0 or the ecoboost

I think 400 HP is expected at this point for Ford so that will be a wise choice while Innovating like Toyota.
I'd like to see the Dual Clutch apply to all Ford product is it increases MPG and Performance as much as they say a Dual Clutch system does!. Of Course price point is important. But I am looking to the day the damn thing drives me to my destination and I don't have to get involved in childish Road Rage episodes. Llol

about time. that 4.6 is a joke for use in fullsize truck and crownvic. the only way ford could get 4.6 to work in the mustang was to supercharge it.

The one problem may be which octane fuel the new engines need. If they need 92+ octane, this is fine for sports cars but will limit it's appeal to trucks. 92 octane is not readily available throughout the U.S. and the extra cost will affect its appeal to commercial buyers.

Gundy
I think one of the previous posters questioned this V6 in this type of application and made mention that the torque and hp is based on the turbos... what happens when you're pulling a heavy load those turbos will be constantly spooling. That would suck.

Silly me, asking an actual question on a "forum" and halfway expecting an actual answer, I should know better. This "forum" is for trashing everyone else, and sometimes, mentioning the vehicle in question.. Or, maybe nobody has read my question yet, if so, sorry for the accusation.

Way too fuking many engine combo's. More POS's for people with absolutely NO USE FOR A TRUCK!

5.0= MOST OVERRATED POS ENGINE EVER PRODUCED.

I'm sure the fag boys with their gelled hair and popped collars are getting a big stiffy over hearing the words "5.0"

Now they have another Ford product they can stick a Chevy Cowl Induction hood on! Dumbasses.

If a V6 has more torque and more horsepower than a V8, would it not tow a trailer, boat, or whatever, at least as good as the lesser V8? The number of cylinders isn't magic, the torque and horsepower numbers are what matters, or am I way off?

The way to save money is to simplify model ranges. I mean, lets think about it. You can get an iPod in black or gray. But if you could get something comparable in Black, gray, pink, orange, yellow, green, or purple, then that's great, more choices.

But let's say that the pink, orange, etc don't sell well, what happens, they just sit there. They are never sold and they go to the shelf at some discount store eventually. But if those odd colored iPod like devices were silver or black, they would have sold. Car manufacturers need to think this way. If you have 6 engine choices, and only 3 are strong sellers, then the bodies containing the weak sellers are a waste because they could contain a strong seller.

get it?

I'm wondering how durable a relatively small boosted V6 would be when used for towing. The engine would be on the boost the whole time the trailer was attached...

Payton Byrd where did you get that math? $1350 per year at 15k miles and $2 gas? Try 196 dollars. I'll be generaous and round up to $200 bucks.

........ 15000 ÷ 20 = 750
........ 15000 ÷ 23 = 652
........ 750 - 652 = 98 gallons saved x $2 = $196/year.

Wait, so their going to charge more for the V-6?

That just doesn't make sense. I don't perceive large, petrol V-6's to be as good at towing, power, etc. as V-8's. It's not entirely perception either, just look at the current slew of low powered, inneficient 6 cylinder truck engines. Dream combo for me...

3.5L 6 cyl- 250hp~ 280ftibs tq (replaces 4.0 V-6)
3.5L ecoboost 6 cyl- 300 hp~ 300ftibs tq (replaces two valve 4.6L)
4.4L diesel- 250hp~ 400ftibs tq (new diesel, try for 25 mpg)
4.6L V8- 350hp~ 380ftibs tq (replaces 5.4 liter V8)
5.0 liter V8- 380 hp~ (who needs 400 hp?), 420ftibs tq (more powerful V-8 for comp. lower production than last models to meet emissions)

6 speed manual or auto. I bet the eco-boost engine could get around 24 miles per gallon. Have the whole market covered, on track to meet emissions (figure another generation, and aim for F-150 average of 20 mpg for 2015, less drag on Ford as a whole).

More importantly than Obama, and on the subject of trucks... nine more days until Isuzu pulls out of North America.

The Eco-Boost will be the premium engine because of the improved fuel economy. 3mpg over the 20 MPG of the 5.4L is a 15% improvement which can save a person $1350 per year if driving 15K miles at $2.00 per gallon.

Pretty much my same sentiments, Nightblack.

I think Ford will product some sort of ecoboost for the base Mustang, althought the 4.0 now gets actually pretty good performance numbers, it's still a archaic Ranger engine competeting with a new DI 3.6L V6 Camaro that shares it's engine with an UPLEVEL CTS. Extremely outdated small pickup truck engine vs. extremely new Car of the Year's high end high featured V-6? Soemthing's gotta give.

The 5.0 would be exactly what the mustang needs.
Yay! Obama
NO OIL DRILLING so the v8 rear drive cars we want will cost to much to operate on fricking ethanol
HIGHER TAXES so we'll have less money to spend on our cars
FREE HEALTH CARE so we'll have to put extra miles on our cars driving to somewhere where good doctors are after the system is destroyed by the goverment.

He's our president now and I wish him and America the best. I hope he suprises us all and does a great job. As long as America wins we all win. But it could be a very dark four years of "change"

No ecoboost for the mustang GT and the purists but why not for the base model. Those people wouldn't be offended by better mileage and more power. I love the new stang but 17/25 with the way gas is going...

Borat, any respectable GT owner would not risk his pride and joy in such conditions, that's why God invented winter beaters. Why risk possible damage and embarrassment when the world is littered with unwanted FWD sh*tboxes that can be had for the price of a Starbuck Latte. I'm already scheming when the time will be right to put mine back on the road. Usually I can last until April before the force becomes too strong.

Johnny, speaking of 'tang GT. It was a little snow here in last few days and roads are slippery. I was driving behind GT over the weekend at a blazing 15-20 mph. My CR-V had no troubles to hold 35 mph limit road could allow, except for massive power in front of me. From the traffic light the beast was growling and turning sideways but not moving forward. Mrs. asked what's wrong with it. I replied that driver had no skill to start form 3rd gear and no brain to start in second. I wonder how much extra torque and horsepower would help.

Is it just me... or did that make no sense?

The base engine is 400hp 5.0... and the "premium" engine is a 400hp 3.5? Where's the incentive to get the premium engine?
