Not nearly as exciting as the Super Chief I just saw online….that concept truck would have me in the showroom in a second. and have me explaining to my wife why I NEED this truck. US companies design great vehicles, but they never seem to make it from concept to production…which leaves us wondering and wanting…. by the way thank you Ford for NOT taking bail-out $ I will never buy a GM product for their thievery of our tax $. I will stick with Ford.

Ford is a great company, they make nice trucks and there built to last. I personally own a 1996 F-350 with a 7.3L diesel, I love this truck and the only flaw i think Ford has had was moving away from the 7.3. I guess we’ll see how this new engine compares though, I just hope it does good and this is Ford country and it always will be

False numbers, no not at all. The truck may be slower to 60 with a heavy load, but that doesn’t mean it’s incapable of pulling it. Towing numbers aren’t all about the engine. They’re also about the cooling ability of the engine and transmission as well as the durability of the frame (Something Ford’s very proud of and generally are the best at. Every see a Tundra, Silverado, or Ram wobble and flex under very poor surfaces. It’s not pretty.). Just take a look at a tractor trailers. It takes them half a minute to get to 60, and they are slowed by inclines as well. Does that mean they’re not capable of pulling the load? Not hardly. They’ll probably have the 6.2L V8 available in the Super Duty line, speculated at around 450hp, and the 5.0L V8 in the F150, speculated at around 400hp, so the point is probably moot concerning the 2011 lineup. It’s also speculated that the Super Duty lineup is getting a new diesel with up to 390hp and 720 lb. ft.

A run of the mill diesel-equipped 3/4 ton work truck from Chevy and Ford runs just under $35k msrp for both. A diesel equipped 3/4 ton from Dodge actually runs just under $38k. Ford undercuts both for regular gasoline V8 models. I agree that Chevy has the best diesel for this year’s model though.

blackstallion4209: The volume “knob” was one example. “Sorry” I used the word knob instead of “button” Look at that dash, is that something you want to contend with when you are pulling that 11,000lb trailer, and your ass end is dragging down the highway, doing 4500rpm just to hold the speed limit?

I was not referring to Toyota and Nissan as the competition, since they do not offer a heavy duty truck to be competition.. I was referring mostly to Chevrolet, who’s 3/4 and 1 tons are consistently offered at 20-30k, while ford wants 30k+. Dodge is also consistently cheaper, but their product has never appealed to me.

P.S.- I am a Ford guy, through and through. Especially trucks, but I’m sorry, Chevy has a far better truck at the moment.

I never said “incapable”.

But when you have trucks that are not far too heavy than they need to be, but are saddled with the weakest engines in the class…it makes the truck weak.

When an F-150 with a (very over exaggerated) ~11,300 tow rating…and that SAME TRUCK really struggles to tow a 6,500 pound trailer…something is a miss.

Like I said, just because Ford publishes false and unsafe capability numbers, does not mean they have a tough truck.

I’d say the fact that the F-Series is the top selling truck in the US means that there is a large number of people that think otherwise. And please dont throw that “combine GMC and Chevy’s numbers” crap at me, it still doesnt change the fact Ford sells a ton of these rigs…

As evidenced by Ford’s most recent refreshes…this truck will be hideous and the interior will be an ergonomic nightmare.

While it’s not possible for the current truck to get any uglier…Ford will find a way.

And I am sure it will have completely unrealistic capability numbers in an attempt to make Ford look like they build the most capable truck. They most certainly don’t…but Ford doesn’t care what they say to make their (weak) trucks look good.

why would you need to look through 45 “buttons” to find one volume “knob”? all superduty trucks are expensive, and fords may be more because toyota and nissan dont have a truck that can touch this. its basically ford, chevy, dodge. all are similarly priced. good looking truck thouigh

a. Ford does not call it the Boss anymore according to an interview I saw recently.
b. When I am pulling a trailer or plowing, I do not want to look at 45 buttons on the dash to find the volume knob.
c. I am not sure why they are changing this truck in the first place, maybe the new engines wouldn’t drop in? But the reason you don’t sell any of these anymore, Ford, is that they are $10K more than the competition’s offerings, not because they are not a capable truck.

Those are not manual hubs, they are in fact auto hubs with a manual overide. Time and time again these guys refer to them as manual hubs.

I’d be complaining about the end of the manual trans if this was a car, or even a regular truck. But this is a Super Duty work truck, I wouldn’t want to bother with shifting in this thing if I was using it for its true purpose.

They seem to change this darn thing every two years and to me it still looks pretty much as it did in 2000. They can change the front end and rear lights only so much, just look at the Ranger for example.

I wish Ford would spend even a quarter as much effort into updating the Ranger as they put into into their full size rigs. After having driven a couple of them over the last week- only because the employee pricing up here makes them attractive at least in that regard- I’m still left wanting. I know they sell basically just because they exist but if I really wanted a new 1988 Ford it would probably be the T-Bird.
