No, the E series used the last generation 6.0 and no diesel in the immediate future.The last E diesel are being built now with engines that were banked. The next E series will be a “world” truck shared with the big Transit and then a diesel will once again grace the vans.

I wish the diesel was an inline 6.

Why not? Wanna know a weird fact? International trucks use Cummins engines. This one has a 15L engine that puts out 1850lbs of torque. Yep, still an inline 6.

Guess though the advantages of service access may have something to do with it.

In any case, it is business as usual. All leapfrog others when they refresh their engine lineups.

ford has been making large strides in there engines as of late. will be interesting to see if Cummins brings out a new diesel or updates the existing one significantly for the ram after this, same for GM and there duramax.

Ohoo… and a Train Horn on each of it’s sides so you can blow at Prius drivers as they sip in their Grande-Late-Expreso’s…

Cab off to repair a Turbo on the last one? That must of cost a few returns buyers! I new that last motor was a huge nightmare but wow.
735 Ft Lbs!!!!!! Damn. The reverse heads (like new Turbo V8 BMW) is interesting. Love the PTO. Hate the styling, its as handsom as Brock Lesner.
Dodge still has the “Cummins” and the Jake brake. While GM still has the “Allison” tranny. this dog still has too prove itself. I would wait a year on the new engine an tranny bugs to sort out.

We will have to see when the new Chevy HD comes out. Like I said in my post I don’t take anything away from Ford but another point to make would be that GM doesn’t have the Kodiak twins Chevy/GMC any more which helpped Ford get the HD market share they have. GM stopped putting effort into HD’s a fw years back but it looks like they want back in from what I have read. That is why I want to see these two trucks go at it. It’s the best time they are both new. GM still owns the standard truck market though.

drove one last week. the actual fuel milage on it (on the highway) was 12L/100km. which transfers to mid to high 20s mpg (cdn). it was a fun truck with a ton of power. the f350 did a bit worse (14L/100km)

Let the truck wars begin!!!
- The new GM HD does NOT have any of the “advanced technology” in the new Ford 6.7L PS Diesel, like the lighter n stronger CGI engine block, reversed intake/exhaust, creative 2:1 turbo-charger, upgraded internals, new 6-speed automatic/manual, live drive PTO, integrated 5th wheel substructure in the frame and on and on…!!!

- The ONLY thing GM has new in their diesel is B20 capable and maybe a little more HP and torque but nothing comapred to this 6.7L PSD engine… thats not keepingup with… thats taking a long distance lead and never looking back…!!!

Ford owns over 45% of the HD market and that share is about to grow n grow!!! Same for the F150 when they get the new 5.0 and 6.2L V8′s, and 3.5L V6 EcoBoost… no longer will Ford engines be the weak link… let thewars begin!!

The truck war that will happen when the new Chevy HD comes out. Having 2 new HD/SD’s go head to head is what I want to see. Not to take anything away from Ford but they have in no way “dominated the trucks since day one”. If you look at sales GM out sells Ford in standard trucks but Ford out sells GM in HD trucks. That’s not dominating that’s keeping up with.

This new SD is just awesome and will continue to take marketshare away from GM and Dodge in the HD truck segment… Big truck buyers also like the new bigger bolder front grill… thats what they want!!!

You can also expect “continuous improvements” every year as that is the new theme at Ford thanks to CEO Alan (take no prisoners) Mulally… the best just keep getting better and better… distancing themselves further ahead of the competition!!!

Well I can’t say we don’t see eye to eye on this one. Cummins make excellent diesel engines. I’ve done work on their generators for hospitals and I know how great they are along with Caterpillar diesels.

@ 85ZingoGTR, it is probably the first time we don’t see eye to eye. I drove Ram trucks (a lot) and they are really great trucks. Especially with Cummins diesel. I have an acquaintance in Wisconsin and he owns one with 5 speed manual. It is incredibly smooth and powerful and he gets over 30 mpg, granted it is not NYC traffic. My bod in the area has Ram with Hemi and he gets about 20 (on highway and 4 cylinders deactivated).. Plus Ram looks different: it is not a plain squire snoot, there is some thought and creativity applied.

Maybe it will and maybe it won’t. The game field is changed. For once Ford build an engine (diesel) which they outsourced before. So it is the first for them. Nobody in fact knows if this engine any good, except Ford engineers, and I never saw commercial stating that engine sucks even during litigations with Navistar. Second, the field changed: now Ford competes with US government for a slice of a pie. Uncle Sam reps may decide whatever they decide. In another words: don’t count chickens till hey hatched.

Dropping $23k ten years ago on a truck is like spending $28,941.93 now, which is pretty close to the base price of $28,995 in my book. I am actually a little surprised how closely the price has adjusted with inflation accounted for. 10 years is actually a pretty long time, and prices go up over time. Arbiter- Ford isn’t obligated to give EPA ratings on this type of vehicle, but in the past other companies have done their own testing and developed their own numbers. Seeing how previous versions had around 12-15 mpg, if this is an improvement of about 15%….

Anyways, 735 FT IBS OF TORQUE!!!??? That’s crazy. I remember just 10 years ago, when the top dog just barely broke 600 ft ibs or torque, and that was a HUGE deal. They sure have made some huge gains, but also some huge gains in prices too (10 years ago you could also grab a V-8 petrol super duty for around $23k).

Don’t expect ANY EPA mileage rating! Trucks over 8500# GVWare NOT rated and NO figures are published!

Also most of the price bump is due to the elimination of manual transmissions, the Torqshift six speed autobox is now standard across the board and accounts for probably $1400.00 of the price increase.
