Automotive columnist Robert Farago got his hands on a 2006 Lincoln Zephyr, and, well, you know… Suffice to say, he wasn’t too impressed. If Lincoln is hoping to expand its cliental beyond old folks, the Zephyr won’t be the car to do it. “News flash: stealth wealth went out of style around the same time MTV started showing rap videos and Gianni Versace sold his first $2000 silk shirt,” writes Farago. And don’t even get him started on the interior! “Wood that looks like plastic, plastic that looks like plastic, leather that feels like plastic and a redesigned dash that’s the luxury car equivalent of the White Cliffs of Dover.” Farago says Ford could have done something more interesting with the Zephyr, but that would have been too costly. Ironically,
“it’s that kind of thinking that got Ford into this hole in the first place,” he says.
