Ford Fairlane set for 2008 launch

02/07/2006, 8:58 PM

By admin

Ford’s next-generation minivan, the Fairlane, will go into production in February 2008, according to a report in the Toronto Star today. The car — a radical departure from traditional minivans — is expected to be built at Ford’s Oakville, Ontario plant. The Fairlane will join the 2007 Ford Edge and 2007 Lincoln MKX at the plant, replacing the Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans. A Ford spokesperson would not confirm the Fairlane report. A Canadian Auto Workers representative also said he had not heard anything official thus far.

Heh, and to think, here in Australia the “Ford Fairlane” is a luxury sedan. Hard for me to imagine it being anything else.

I don’t care if they build it or not but PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don’t use the Fairlane name. It hurts me inside to see that name on a minivan. If you are running out of names starting with F and E let me suggest a few.

I saw the concept last year and thought it was pretty sweet. Nice to see Ford depart from being an also-ran in design, this definitely is not a minivan, it really is a cross-over. Fairlane is appropriate, recognizeable name and should change some minds about Ford’s past dull models.

Ford Fairlane…
looks like the designers borrowed from Range Rover and Mini Cooper, and turned out something, which could be good. I like it, even though I have never been a FORD FAN.

Given a chance I could turn FORD into a profitable US carmaker:). But that would require free reign on my part… and that Mr. FORD retires in due course, LOL

Providing it makes descent power, I would rather drive that than an Explorer.
