First introduced in the United States back in 2010, the Ford Fiesta will soon receive a mid-cycle refresh with updated styling a new 1.0-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost motor.

Recent spy photos reveal that the updated Fiesta will feature a heavily revised, 2013 Fusion-influenced front fascia. The biggest change is an Aston Martin-like hexagonal grille, while thinner headlights help give the car a more focused look. While still fairly concealed by camouflage, the trunk lid and taillights also appear to be in for some modest tweaks.

The biggest mechanical change will be the addition of Ford's three-cylinder EcoBoost engine. Currently available on a number of the Blue Oval's European offerings, the downsized motor should produce similar power to the current 1.6-liter but return much better mileage - recent rumors suggest north of 50 mpg on the highway. It's unclear whether the EcoBoost will be offered as an option or simply replace the 1.6-liter altogether.

Other whisperings have indicated that Ford might also offer the Fiesta with a 175-horsepower three-cylinder featuring both a turbocharger AND a small electric supercharger - although it's important to note that both the efficiency numbers and the more potent engine remain speculation at this point.

Look for the refreshed Fiesta to debut later this year - possibly at the L.A. show - or in early 2013.
