With $170/barrel coming this year, and that is FACT, there is a limited market for this tank … as ‘TomF’ mentioned, too much product for too little market.

Most people do not even remember the names of Ford’s past wagons, most of the public has little to no knowledge about past cars. Also Galaxie in the US was a sedan, and sold really well.

it hauls 7 people does 24mpg it has an amazing interior and can tow 4200 pounds. SUV drivers will flock to this thing

I don’t see how Ford can market the Flex, the Edge, the Explorer and the Taurus X (for now) all at once and make money. They’re all aimed at the same market. Pick one and back it, you idiots.

The Flex would have been a fine idea three years ago when gas was $2.40 a gallon. It seems like it’s taken forever to come to market.

The Flex will just be another flop from ford. Those newly hired guys at the oakville plant shouldn’t be too confident about their new jobs. If I were them, I would update my resume because I wouldn’t feel comfortable working for a company like ford. especially these days.

I’ve already seen enough of these rolling around Dearborn to know that personally I don’t like it. I even saw an engineer driving one that had the fake looking woody panels on it. I’m sure the Californians will jump all over it like they did the HHR.

On another note, Ford does need this especially if its going to be able to seat up to 7 have ample versatility and get pretty good gas mileage for a vehicle its size.

Believe it or not there’s always going to be a heck of a lot of people who genuinely do need something larger than a Prius in their day-to-day lives. These people are driving Explorers, Sequioas, and Tahoes now. But they’re going to be looking to replace that with something that has much of the same capability but much better mileage.
With a rating of 17/24 the Flex gets an extraordinarily respectable mileage for a 7-passenger vehicle. It’s both longer and wider than an Explorer, capable of carrying the same cubic feet of stuff, yet gets at least 25% better mileage.

I think it’s a good vehicle for the times. I can’t even tell you how many of my friends are looking to get out of their Suburbans et al, but don’t want a minivan. It’ll be a solid competitor to the GM Lambdas for sure, and they’ll sell 100k for the first couple of years, especially if they eventually put the EcoBoost motors in it, and then a diesel or (gulp) hype-rid. Hopefully, they are making a profit on it.

This is Ford thinking: “Flex” is a stupid name that doesn’t fit this vehicle, but Ford chose it over “Fairlaine.” “Verve” is a cool name, but it lost out to “Fiesta.” Go figure.

Ford tries again with the station wagon. A majority of Americans don’t want/like wagons. Just like the Brits don’t like toothbrushes, or the French don’t like showers, or the Canadians…..well, **** the Canaidans. This is a Ford Country Squire. The Flex will do exceedingly well with those families who have the need for such a vehicle to actually transport their family members. It does not have the malignant stigma of an SUV and other larger vehicles; and it sure as hell is no Excursion. More props to Ford as they are turning matters around much faster, and smarter than GM. Plus, they have no loud mouth dumb-ass likes Lutz who constantly sticks his foot in his mouth.
