For the most part, the Focus Coupe is identical to its sedan counterpart, minus two doors. It weighs the same, it has an identical wheelbase, and it's even the same overall length.
The Coupe shares the Sedan's new aggressive styling theme, which incorporates a more stylish grille, new headlights, and redesign taillights. It also boasts a redesigned cabin with silver metallic finishing on the dashboard and center console, available ambient interior lighting, and available leather seating with contrast stitching.
The ambient lighting system has seven available colors that can be selected using a switch. They are red, blue, aqua, purple, white, green and yellow.
The car is powered by a 2.0-liter, Duratec 20 dual-overhead-cam, inline four-cylinder engine delivering an estimated 136 hp. The new engine also offers improved air intake system, cooling and exhaust system are designed to improve the smoothness, efficiency, and response of the powertrain.
The new engine also brings a variant which qualifies in states adopting California emission standards that qualifies Focus as a Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle when using the Duratec 20E engine.
Suspension and chassis refinements improve ride and handling. Improved sealing and sound deadening are used to enhance audio performance and reduce road noise. Also offered is FordSync, the new Focus promises to serve as a "second home on wheels."
2009 Update
For the 2009 model year, the Focus Coupe received new front and rear fascias, with a few other design tweaks along the way.
Up front, the Focus coupe has a larger lower grille inspired by the new global Ford Fiesta. Flanking the larger opening are newly integrated fog lights - which are now standard - and Ford's signature two-bar chrome grille has been toned down with a darker finish.
Out back, SES models will feature a roof-mounted spoiler, while the SE will continue to offer a decklid spoiler.
The update also includes Dark Chrome 17 inch wheels - standard on the SES model - and the removal of the faux vents just aft of the car's front wheels.
The top-of-the-line SES model will feature a sport-tuned exhaust, which will add a few extra ponies and also provide a sportier exhaust note. Automatic versions will be upgraded to a 4.2 final drive ratio for better off-the-line performance, but with no sacrifice to overall fuel economy.
For 2009, Ford has decided to drop the base S trim level on the Focus coupe - leaving just the SE and range-topping SES. The SE will start pricing at $15,920 - an increase of nearly 5 percent - while the SES will retail from $17,340. Both prices exclude a $695 destination charge.
Stability control for the Focus will be available for the first time in 2009 and will be bundled with ABS for $744.
