Laughing at "hard Aussie roads!" You obviously have never been to Dearborn/Detroit. Those are some hard roads. For the amount of money you pay for cars in Australia, they'd better be ugh "better!" $50+k can buy quite some nice cars in the US. I am not sure if the Falcon will sell like hotcakes at that price level.

The difference lies in the culture of America. People think they are entitled to cheap but the best products. That just won't happen. The domestics are having some sort of identity crisis. GM has decided to move up market, ditching the low-rent cars like the ION for the Euro Astra. Whether American will pay more for GM products remain to be seen.

It is Ford's turn. Move up-market, or continue the fleet sales to move volumes of uninspired cars. I think Ford has figured out it is not all about bottom line. Selling more cars to fleet is short-sighted. Building good faith in customers is more important, even if they have to take a sales hit meanwhile.

Ford's line up in the US isn't crappy, although the Focus should be replaced. It is past its 5-year model cycle and Ford should let the 1st gen die. Ford should have ironed out all the kinks within a year of the launch, and to say that the old Focus is trouble-free now and should remain on the market is rediculus.

The Taurus/500 is more like the Avalon than the Falcon. So obviously, if you want a performance full size sedan like the Falcon, you won't consider the Taurus in the state at all. You are comparing apple to orange at best.

Ford does not currently offer anything in the States that is comparable to the Falcon, maybe the Mustage, but it's not a Sedan. Maybe the Crown Vic, but that's OLD SCHOOL! How about modelling Mercury after Saturn, bring the Falcon over and call it the new Marauder?

I'm not a ford or holden fan' but i do know a good vehicle when i see one, yes you have to look a little closer these days to see the difference between vehicles. you are probably right ian, the FPV's will not get to the american shores, our standards are a lot higher. it does look as though you may get a taste of the next generation.i think it would be fair to say that FORD MO CO america has lost it's way for what the people want and need, i really can not see the need for anything bigger than a f-150 without actually getting a truck. QUOTE; cts driver, the whole el camino - ranchero thing would be a great rivalry revamped and a whole lot more practical than anything above a f-150. weight to power ratio, the handling, not to mention the egonomics, if you want to feel like your driving a truck, then buy a truck. As for the taurus, they tried to sell them here, i think they had trouble giving them away, people were to embarassed to say they owned one, let alone be seen driving them. thats not to say they did'nt drive well. there is nothing masculine about a large FWD vehicle. FORD and HOLDEN both make very good performance vehicles, which would give FORD MO CO and GM rivals a good run for there money, not only are they raunchy and powerful and unique in design they are much better in build quality and finish.I'm not even going to mention the 500 or the crown victoria, i know if i was in law enforcement what i would want for the PURSUIT of justice. It's hard to say, i love the whole corvette history, but the current model front, particularly the headlights are so ferrari and cheap looking they made me sick. please do something with them next time round and put some design into them, not someone else's, maybe a few more dollars, god knows you ask enough for them. Until somebody in control actually gives a green light to some decent body design cues and platforms for FORD, you guys will have to keep drooling over what we have in our backyard, lets face it, if the commodores wer'nt any good, why did the general use them to replace and revamp the GTO, there is already talk of the new model going over seas, and the ute being used as the next el camino. you may have shown us how to do it, but we do it better. Aussies....oi !

I agree with unknown! Heaps better than the CRAP you guys get over in the states. I'd be ashamed to own a Taurus or 500 or whatever they call it this week.
The Falcon has been designed in Australia since the XA from 1972! only the first Falcons XK-XP XR-XY where based on the US car BUT they were "Beefed Up" for harsh Aussie Roads! so we ended up with much better cars!
And NO it is NOT a copy of the G8 "commodore" it was around before IT! the commodore looks like a copy (from the front)of the Falcon! As for the blue n white paintjob BLAME Edsel Ford II!!! it was his idea 30 years ago when he visited australia around the time the last 400 XC coupes (aka "MAD MAX" cars) where being made! Anybobdy wanna know more about the aussie Falcons look up "Phase 3 GT-HO", "Bathurst" or "Alan Moffat"!

This wont come to the US shores because they aren't built with the North American standards. (or so I'm told) Something about the car not being able to convert to the left-hand-drive due to complications of the way the car is built. I don't understand it myself, but I do have my sources and they are reliable.(or at least I trust them)

What the HELL are most of you ignorant fools talking about? First of all the Falcon is NOT based on the Mustang, it is locally produced and designed in Australia. For your information the Falcon is a MUCH better car than any of the American junk that u guys have and if u had bothered checking some of the reviews you would see that. Secondly the design of this Falcon dates back to 2001! This was out BEFORE the Holden Commodore which is the what u now call the GTO. The current Holden actually took A LOT of design cues from the Ford and not the other way around. And if u guys consider this design to be lame or old fashioned then u have lost me. Compare this to the pile of 80s retro-junk which is the 500 and there is NO contest. You would wish the Falcon reached US shores. I am from Europe and i would also love for it to reach my country as well.

1. The Falcon is a NO-BRAINER! Ship the dang thing already and stop dragging your feet!
2. Ship the Cosworth Focus! The WRX and the EVO are having way too much fun.
3. Build the GR-1 and/or make a Vette-fighting Thunderbird and make it a perennial (Build it as long as FORD exists).
4. Cut back on the trucks and full-sized SUVs, unless you got something truly special coming down the pipeline.
5. Do something with Mercury. You want to ship Overseas models to the US, go through MERCURY and keep them relevant. A new Cougar, based on the Mustang, would be nice too.
6. Pick a Foreign company you want to surpass, like TOYOTA, HONDA, MERCEDES-BENZ, or BMW, and work at it hard! FORD does everything these companies do and there is no reason why FORD can not meet and/or beat them.
7. Fire anyone on the Executive staff that hasn't posted at least three good ideas in the last ten years. I think most of those fools are there drawing paychecks and negotiating to have golden mansions built the day after FORD up and dies. Get some people in there who One) know what they are doing, Two) want FORD the last another 100 years, and Three) are only slightly more interested in the cars than the money.
8. Hire new talent in design and engineering. FORD could use some new ideas.
9. Actually ask the buying public what they would be interested in. Make sure to ask men in equal number to women so we have cars that are, at least, comfortably unisex and not "girlie" or painfully close to "gay". A nice Macho car like a the 427 concept, a Roush Mustang, or something like the Escort EXP or RS200 would not hurt either.
10. Show the world your work so we can be in your corner, FORD! We want something to cheer for and save our money waiting for.

What I feel FORD needs to do is just actually lesson and to the customers, and take clear note of which way they are moving.

Grasping at straws, like the Taurus/Five Hundred, and sitting on their hands, such as not shipping the second generation Focus, or actively pursuing a replacement for their Panther platform cars - until now - is not help FORD. In fact the longer they wait to do anything the less anyone will care.

There is a certain legend behind American Cars: Front engine, rear drive, big engines, Easy to maintain (a plus given the shotty quality but the performance was hard to beat for twice the price), and so on. Today American cars barely compete, if they do at all (not withstanding the Corvette, most Cadillacs, Mustang, and Full-sized trucks). This is an over-simplification, however, Detroit has been trying to make a buck by NOT making what they know they can sell.

The old formula, plus a healthy dose of intelligent design, and solid quality, will help move Detroit back on the attack. Then move on to what people need. They can't really hide behind their lobbyists anymore because if Detroit doesn't build it, Japan, Europe, or Korea will.

If FORD wants to make a singular "FORD" design language, much like say BMW or MERCEDES-BENZ which are practically the same cars sold around the world, Then they should make sure it is a good design language, They should get it done fast. Finally FORD needs to start running, fast and hard.

Stop with the Concept cars, the special limited editions of the Mustang and F-series trucks, Just get us some cars we will gladly buy.

Grasping at straws, like the Taurus/Five Hundred, and sitting on their hands, such as not shipping the second generation Focus, or actively pursuing a replacement for their Panther platform cars – until now – is not help FORD.

They can’t really hide behind their lobbyists anymore because if Detroit doesn’t build it, Japan, Europe, or Korea will.

If FORD wants to make a singular “FORD” design language, much like say BMW or MERCEDES-BENZ which are practically the same cars sold around the world, Then they should make sure it is a good design language, They should get it done fast. Finally FORD needs to start running, fast and hard.

Stop with the Concept cars, the special limited editions of the Mustang and F-series trucks, Just get us some cars we will gladly buy.

Only major problems with Jaguar's reasoning are
... 1) That's the same load Ford marketers have been saying while market share falls, and
... 2) The foreign designs are selling. The American ones less so.

between those two, the whole argument goes down the toilet. To stay in business you have to have product that sells. If foreign designs sell, then you at least should be offering those also. Nobody in a competitive auto market stays in business by telling people "we have determined this is what you should drive even if you prefer other stuff."

Jaguar XJ-S,
You might be right about Amercan cars needing to be more American, but don't hold your breath--Ford has already said that its goal is to have global platforms and a globally recognizeable design language so that you'll know a Ford when you see it, regardless if you're in Kansas or Tuscany.

The "easy way out" is probably the only way out. Foreign designs are more fluid, more agressive, and certainly less bland. Ford needs them to survive, and if it's already got a bank of designs to choose from from abroad, the head-start can only help the bottom line.

Ford does need to do something different for its American market. I don't think importing its foreign designs is the best option though. Ford never became an industry giant by taking the easy way out. Importing their Australian or European cars would take away what makes Ford American. We're talking the company that brought us a pony car three years before anybody else could. Chevy finally brought out the Camaro but Ford already had a corner on the pony car market. Anyways, I just think that importing their foreign designs to replace the American designs is wrong. America has different needs in their vehicles than Europe and Australia does. Give us American cars.

The problem Ford has is their Taurus/500 debocle. How can they bring the Falcon over after the shell game they just pulled? Not to mention, their bread n butter Taurus is FWD and most likely a bit larger than the Falcon. Ford really screwed the pooch on this one. It's a shame. I have no doubt the G8 will sell well, and it's obvious competition will remain in Australia.

if thats $61,200 Australian dollars (AUD), then $54k US dollars for a Mustang is a helluva lot of money. I guess Holden was having a sale on their old desgins.

4 door mustang. Or not.

I like it, but would this thing have any popularity in the states?
This should have been the new taurus, especially the SHO.

I still have a hard time understanding why Ford hasn't already brought these cars to America. Lets see...keep a 25 year old platform with the crown vics or import a better/newer platform which could replace it and make a better car....hmmmm...

Australian design preferences, I guess. But, yeah, it does look like a GTO. But the details make it look cooler. Shame that they aren't going to ship, at least, anytime soon.
