Ford CEO Bill Ford ruled out filing for bankruptcy protection in an interview published in today’s Wall Street Journal. Bill Ford dismissed any talk of bankruptcy being a threat, saying “it’s not an option.” Mr. Ford made similar comments about bankruptcy in April, when he said, “we don’t see it at all.” He admitted in today’s interview, however, that if consumers continue to turn away from SUVs, matters could get worse. “If that pace continues, that is tough for us.”

Hey Bill(and this goes for the other idiot@GM), SUV’s aren’t for everybody. Especially when you guys aren’t doing squat to improve on fuel efficiency. It’s not easy paying $60-100+ each tank you know.
He deserves to get smacked for that dumb comment.

And if they do go bankrupt, don’t bail them out.

Bankruptcy would be a good thing, because under bankruptcy protection, there is an opportunity to do a lot of house cleaning/restructuring which is otherwise not possible (see Air Canada’s for a good example). If it is done properly, Ford could come out of it in way better shape than GM or DCX. Then their only challenge will be to produce cars people actually want to buy.

Actually, just game myself and idea. I say the new CEO of Ford should be Bill Clinton. Bill Ford just reminds me too much of Bush. GM’s CEO should be Samuel L Jackson.

Mr. Ford
yeah.. ‘we won’t go bankrupt.. and gravity does not exist’…
Mr. Ford get a clue! you’re running on empty, time to shut down and either go away or have a MAJOR restructuring. I don’t see Ford making any profits in the next 3-5 years. Sorry, I loved a few of your vehicles (focus and mustang of course) but your other cars are HORRIBLE especially in comparison to the japanese or european models. You don’t make cars that are cheap (like most japanese models) or have a comfortable interior (like most european models) or have reasonable gas mileage!! Save us the trouble and stop trying…

they really just need to focus on new models for the sedan and coupe catergory, and that can be solved by bringing all the european models to the US. i mean europe gives good press about the ford mondeo and the ford focus and a few others. and as far as i know the focus rs is really popular in england.

I agree with you, #9. Ford has some cool looking sedans and coupes in Europe. Ford should get some of those or some of their Australian models out here in the states. As for those of you who think Ford, an American icon, should throw in the towel, get the heck out of here. What’s wrong with you? Don’t you care at all about the revolutionizing that Ford has done by being the first mass production automobile company? You kind of people probably hope American legands like Harley-Davidson should give up, too, and that all motorcycle riders should ride Suzukis or Ducatis and the like. Even though I am a die hard Ford guy, I say all American companies need to be stronger. I’d hate to see imports take over the automobile market. All of the big three have had their glory cars at various times. Sure, they could do better, and that’s why they are doing what they’re doing now. I say good for Ford for being optimistic and recognizing the need for change.
