Ford Motor Company announced today that it will be investing $200 million into its two Louisville, Kentucky, assembly plants, according to Kentucky governor Steve Beshear. This is on top of $100 million per plant Ford promised earlier this year as the two plants transition away from solely producing SUVs and pickups and into more efficient automobiles.
Ford has said the plants, which produce the Ford Explorer, Explorer Sport Trac and Mercury Mountaineer, as well as the Ford Super Duty pickups, will be making smaller, more efficient cars in the United States by 2011.
In a statement, Kentucky’s governor said that the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority has authorized up to $180 million in state incentives for Ford’s factories, as well.
