NEW FUTURE MARKET
  • Ford invests $155M in Cleveland plant to produce Mustang V6

    By Drew Johnson

Ford has announced it will be investing $155 million in its Cleveland Engine Plant No. 1. The investment will revamp the plant to produce the 3.7L V6 earmarked for the 2011 Ford Mustang, creating an additional 60 jobs along the way.
The investment will allow the Cleveland plant to produce Ford’s next-generation 3.7-liter DOHC Ti-VCT V6. The new six-pot will develop 305 horsepower under the hood of the 2011 Mustang and is expected to return a class-leading 30mpg.

“Ford is absolutely committed to delivering class-leading fuel efficiency with every new vehicle we introduce, and this investment in Cleveland provides further proof,” said Bill Russo, director of manufacturing for Ford’s powertrain operations.

Including the Cleveland investment, has now spent $1.8 billion on North American facility upgrades to support its 2011 model year vehicles. In all, the initiative has created 1,260 new jobs.

Yes Plainspoken I second the motion. Keeps Cleveland moving instead of moving everyone downstate to get a state job in Columbus. Now Next Ford come out with a Transatmospheric Hyper-Ionic WARP Drive to carry us to Jupiter and beyond. All I will need is some Dilithium crystals to make it to work right. Scotty Beam me up this is no intelligent life forms down here with people like the Unrealist lurking around!

It’s GM that you should thank, not Ford.

Never thought I’d lust after a “sixpot”. Seriously, this’ll be the first time, in my lifetime at least, where getting a Mustang without the V8 doesn’t instantly make you a laughing stock. From now on the gas station conversations will go something like:
      Admirer: Is that a V8?
      Owner: Nope.
      Admirer: Aw.
Owner: But it’s got over 300 horsepower.
      Admirer: Ah!

305 HP. Pretty decent for a V6. And 30mpg to boot! Guess I can no longer discount the Mustang on the basis of fuel economy when it comes to car shopping anymore. Maybe the Fordheads should consider attaching names to engines again – having a “Cleveland” in a Mustang?

It’s sure nice to finally see that the muscle car makers are seeing the value of a smaller engine option that still has some punch to it.

The Camaro’s V6 numbers are pretty close to that as well, aren’t they?

i hear ya, jake, i spent 7 years up in cleveland, though, so i feel for the town…very similar vibe to st. louis, honestly (industrial boom towns at the beginning of the 20th century, now down on population and searching for identity)…i used to get sympathy by saying i rooted for the browns, too, but down in st. louis the browns look like the effin’ patriots…the whole midwest could use a boost, economically, tho…

Yeah I get it. I have some family up there and friends from Cleveland. I guess I blame the whole city on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame being a bunch of sh!t. Seriously, they put a bunch of bands that 99% of people haven’t heard of, but a band like Kiss gets overlooked? I mean, it’s name is flatly wrong – many inductees aren’t even Rock and Roll acts! The O’Jays? Never heard of them before and they were an R&B act too. WTF!?! Political BS.

Jake just to rub you the wrong way, Rock and Roll has it’s roots in the “black” music scene of the times so the O’Jays, the Supremes and Barry White have just as much rights to get inducted as Kiss, Bon Jovi and Aerosmith. Now if we’re talking about influences to the music and modern bands I don’t see “Gangsta” rappers and this techno noise kids call music fitting in the Hall of Fame.

30mpg from 300 horses is among the best in the industry right now. That is damn impressive to say it’s NA.

Hey JakeK66…..you are a jerk! Who the hell are you to say that someplace isn’t deserving of much-needed jobs? Let me guess, sour grapes because your city didn’t get the job? Tough crap, bud…..Cleveland deserves it.

      JakeK66149 days ago

Paul Mezhir – Yup – I’m a jerk. Call me what you want, but I want jobs here not there. Like I want the Cardinals to win the World Series, not the Indians. It’s all relative.

Same with you Senators and Congressmen – you want them to fight for your district/state – not someone elses. You find it offensive? Well, tough sh!t, cause that’s life bud.

I wonder if Ford fixed the water leak issues when they redesigned this new model. If they didn’t, DO NOT buy a Mustang. If you do buy a Mustang do not drive or park it in the rain or this will happen sooner or later http://editpacific.com/mustang.html. It took my Mustang four years to start the water fall that causes all kinds of electrical problems. This is not my car in the video, my car’s leak isn’t that bad yet.
