Ford issues second round of recalls

01/31/2008, 3:24 PM

By Drew Johnson

Ford has announced a second round of recalls for some Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. Ford has already recalled the same batch of vehicles for a faulty wiring harnesses, but some of the new harnesses have a faulty fuse, which do not offer enough protection in case of a short circuit.

The original recall affected 225,000 vehicles — including 1992-2003 Econoline vans, 1992-98 Ford Crown Victoria/Mercury Grand Marquis sedans, 1993 Bronco SUVs, 1995-97 F-series stripped chassis trucks, 1993-95 Taurus SHO sedans, 1992-95 Town Car sedans, and 1993 F series trucks — but the latest recall will cover “only a small percentage of the total population of vehicles that were initially recalled,” according to Ford.

The latest recall will also only affect gasoline-powered vehicles.

Other than some older Econolines, no one should be owning those recalled cars. I think there may have been a bean counter miscalculation here. Ford was best off keeping quiet.

How many of these vehicle could still be on the road today? If you’re driving one of these, you have bigger problems than a potential wiring harness failure…

A recall on 15 year old cars is unheard of.

If it would’ve been Toyota the wouldn’t even call it a recall. But since it’s Ford everyone is gonna bitch and moan about it, Two Faced Bustards!

Is there some legal reason they have to announce this? I’m confused. This is like recalling a car from the 50’s because it has a 6 volt charging system.

Hey, my Grand Marquis is 13 years old, and runs great.

I know people hate Ford, but they made good V8 RWD sedans.

They just don’t attract many women.

This is great news or memories. At least Ford was selling cars 15 years ago! I hoped for newer recall when I read headline, just to make sure that there is something to recall.

johnnycanuck, still wouldn’t be a good thing if they get sued for it.
