Flemings, you don’t want to get into that game with me. Let’s see… out of the 1153 vehicles in my fleet right now which I personally own, the ratio of issues with Ford Escapes, Rangers, and Everests are 3 problems every 6 months as opposed to 1 for Toyota and Honda. And I’ve sold all the Chevy’s and other American crap that won’t hold in this weather. Regardless, personal experiences don’t hold much compared to a real subjective study of the matter. You have failed to provide the evidence for such research since JD Power has recently changed their measurement value to something more emotional rather than hard facts (read about it in the older posts).

@ Ford: develop a series of good engines including a V12, and do the same thing with jaguar that mercedes has been doing the last 20 years.

Neither have had any component replaced other than belts and hoses, one fuel pump and one set of alternator brushes. The C6 transmissions have never been touched. The engines have never been opened. We drive them all over our Nation on a weekly basis (trade shows) and both run as new. Once I thought I had tranny problems, but one $6.00 bottle of “friction modifier” did the trick and we’ve never looked back! Anyone should be able to find J.D. Power surveys by doing a simple search. In their most recent survey, Lexus was No. 1, Mercury No. 2 and Buick No 3. All I’m saying is don’t buy the line, hook, line and sinker, investigate and find out what’s really going on.

Since you were unable to show me a URL, I can only assume you are making it up and are getting your information out of thin air. I am investigating, I asked for a URL and you are just feeding me a line.

It is almost impossible to have any vehicle with 400,000 miles with out any problems, especially since no transmission or engine is going to last that long without having at least some of its components replaced.

I know that Jaguar has a storied name/tradition but they also have a storied tradition of losing money and the fact that no large manufacturers are clamoring to pick it up is proof that there may not be a place for Jaguar in the landscape. Businesses and portions of it are allowed to go away. No one on here talks about selling the Mercury brand, they want to slash it… why not do that with Jaguar and then possibly resurrect in 5-10 yrs when they think they have a winning solution (it would be a shame to see the new XK have a short run I must admit).

Why wouldn’t Ford simply put the brand to rest and not have to sell good cachet brands (LR and AM) that are doing well?

What we don’t often see is a breakdown by brand or by product of P&L for the components of PAG. This could help determine if LR and AM are worth keeping (which I think they are) and not bundling just to rid themselves of Jaguar.

I said 60 or so years ago Bush because they had many notable racing cars and regular cars around that time and up until the 70’s… but then they started to go down, especially when Ford bought them.
And 1952 MG TD, maybe it’s because other car companies don’t want the burden of a failing Jaguar on their sholders?
