Ford releases another 2010 Mustang teaser: Gear lever

We’re just weeks away from the 2010 Ford Mustang’s official premier at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November and Ford is making sure the Mustang stays on our mind - even as the muscle car competitors from Chevrolet and Dodge have been stealing headlines. Ford released another teaser shot showing us the 2010 Mustang’s five-speed manual transmission gear lever.

Following the 2010 Ford Mustang’s semi-official debut at Kohler International Challenge vintage race at Road America in Wisconsin earlier this year, Ford released a series of teaser shots of the new pony car, followed up by another shot today. Although the teaser shots don’t give too much away, they do give us a glimpse of what the 2010 will look like, and clearly reveal more than the new Mustang logo released a few weeks before.

Ford’s decision to show off — albeit partially — its newest pony car at a racing event mimic Chevy’s announcement it will have the reborn Camaro at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in September.

As recently reported, Ford designers have attempted to make the new ‘Stang appear smaller, despite being the same size as the existing model. The move was made to combat the preconceived image of a fuel-gulping muscle car. Once the disguise comes off, we’ll be able to assess the effectiveness of this technique.

We’re expecting the redesigned 2010 model to hit the market in the early part of 2009, following the Mustang’s November debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show. We’ll bring you live coverage of the Los Angeles Auto Show, so keep checking back in November.

Get it below 3000 lbs, 300+ HP turbo-6, 30 MPG, and keep the price below $30K. Spank the Camaro and Challenger

I don’t know about the gear lever; in the winter it would be like grabbing the wrong end of a popsicle.

I’ve had a solid aluminum shifters in my last car and yes they suck the heat right out of your hand in winter and you get burned in the summer. But it looked good :)

Maybe Ford’s executives could give this a good shine before the auto show. They obviously spend plenty of time polishing their own knobs.

Too bad it’s only a 5-speed. Get with the times, Ford.

Excatly. A 5 speed?! FAIL! I guess they figure it’ll be easier to go bankrupt than to produce a quility product. I’m not a GM fanboy but who would choose this over a Camaro?

All the aluminum trim in the interior is real, even the medalllion on the steering wheel.

A car with a design that’s stuck in the ’60’s/early ’70’s & a drivetrain from the mid ’80’s. Yeah! That’s a car I’m gonna want for 2010.

^^^ LOL. Couldn’t have said it better myself. But wait……..all the aluminum trim in the interior is real, even the medallion on the steering wheel…LOL. Only Ford and their fanboys make me laugh this hard.

I’d imagine that Ford would need a lot of “aluminum” trim to cover the failings of a car that has yet to distance itself, performance wise, from other land-boatesque vehicles of theLincoln and Mercury variety. Sure the GT500 is not that bad, but the base car is disgustingly boring to drive. What the Mustang needs is to go back to its own history books and remember a time where Mustang’s were more compact (60’s). Reports are that the base Camaro is quite a nice drive, especially in comparison to the Mustang (Automobile Magazine Nov).

^I second that^

I’m not a “fanboy” for any of the big three, but this car just really makes me yawn, Ford needs to (as mentioned before) get with the times and make a good Mustang. I wish thy would have made a whole new exterior design also, it looks like a the front fascia looks too similar to the GT500….
