Ford open to alliance of its own

07/17/2006, 12:46 PM

With all eyes on GM, Renault, and Nissan — and the prospect of an alliance between the three companies — there has been some speculation about Ford entering into a similar deal. In an interview with the New York Times published Sunday, CEO Bill Ford Jr. said his company would be open to an alliance with another automaker. “Regardless of any deal we might envision, the fact is that we have to fix our North American business,” Mr. Ford said. The No. 2 U.S. automaker is believed to have approached Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn about taking over as head of Ford. However, Mr. Ghosn made it clear those discussions did not include talk of an alliance.

Here’s an alliance for ya Ford. Join the ranks of Yugo, Packard, Sterling, and Imperial in the grave. Your customers are stupid choosing a Ford over a comparable GM product

Wow the eloquence of your impassioned argument GMrules is overwhelming.

What is it that causes such zealous allegiance to one brand and overwhelming hatred for another. What has Ford done to you? Or as importantly what has GM done for you?
Sure most of us like certain brands over others. Even nationalities of brands (Japanese vs American etc.). However, for the most part we can also understand the interest or value other cars represent. I’m a Porsche fan, however I can totaly appreciate the value of a Corvette. Does hating a competing brand make you feel stronger in your devotion to GM? Why do you need to feel devoted to GM? Better yet, ask yourself, without Ford to compete against where would GM be?

Its common for people to like things from other countries. The stuff you see everyday gets boring and common. American cars have become common to us and the designed uninspired.

They will either capture sales or they won’t. It looks as if the big 3 are working on a turn around. All we can do is wait and see.

How has America gotten to the point where its two remaining major automakers are in talks to merge with foreign companies? All this talk about “Economic superpower” is total BS. America USED to be an economic superpower; Now all we make here is bad movies and rap music.

Gee, GMrules, you sound pretty convinced so I won’t start arguing with yet another sadly brainwashed zombie of the decaying american pop culture. But I will let you know this little tidbit of info. GM needs all the help it can get. It is probably at the bottom of the international automotive food chain, and even the rats are feeding off of it. I don’t know about you, but I’d be pretty worried for a company that lost a third of it’s employees in less than a year’s time. If people shopped for automobiles using their minds as opposed to their allegiance to a flag, GM wouldn’t exist any more. It is a defunct corporation that’s completely run out of ideas. For God’s sake, they’re current flagship motor has barely evolved since it’s inception in the mid-50’s. GM obviously is waving a white flag here and you’re still convinced that they make the best vehicles in the world. If they did, they would be making money off of them. Those 3 different women of yours have something you don’t seem to understand which i’ll try to explain in caps : REASON. yes, reason, as in…reason enough to make a smart purchase based on how the car feels, drives and is rated, and not on who’s uncle is pushing buttons in a soon-to-be-shutdown factory. Grow up damnit.

oh yeah, and what kind of a moron buys his NEW girlfriend an Escalade? The vehicle is ugly, pompous, slow and has horrendous gas mileage. The exterior and interior design is 10 years out of date and so is the engine technology…but wait, so is the entire lineup of GM’s…nevermind, you made your point clear, my bad. :) You wanna make a smart move? Buy your lady a 350z, an Rx-8, an M3, an s2000. All those cars do what they’re designed to do properly and excell in all fronts, not to mention they’ll make your girlfriend like you much more than if you bought her a useless, obsolete fashion trend. Bling is dead, kid, bling is dead.
