Bold move Ford, pricing the vehicle closer to what the actual market will bear versus an inflated price and silly discounts. These discounts give the impression that Ford needs to lower pricing in order to get you to buy an inferior product. Now, if they’d introduce no-haggle, REALISTIC pricing, attractive products that actually don’t look like a polished turd or a warmed over model deemed to crappy for the European and Asian markets, and increase the warranty to say 100k bumper-to-bumper like Hyundaiand you may start to take back market share.

About time they started pricing their cars closer to real values. Artificially inflating the price only to give cash back was too scammy to me. Let the vehicle sell on its merit not some dumb “sale” pricing from
cash back incentives. Good job Ford.

Global warming? depends what scientist you talk to. Don’t beleive everything you read, try doing a little research yourself.
so much more noxious chemicals? Provide some numbers to back this up, because it seems to me you are pulling this straight from your ass without even knowing (without looking it up) what motor is in this, let alone how its emmissions rate vs other engines.

And on the topic of this news article, the Expedition can be priced lower, but that doesn’t make it a better vehicle. It’s still a mediocre drive, it’s sitll overweight, its still unreliable, and it still gets poor mileage while it furthers global warming along after each mile its driven by releasing so much more noxious chemicals than smaller suv’s/cars.

I’ve been reading LLN articles for a while, and somehow, the same arguments (pro-SUV/ con-SUV, pro-American/con-American, gas mileage, political agenda, etc etc) come out on EVERY article! People, people, people. Can we discuss the benefits/detriments of Automobiles and their news without having to resort to name calling? Even if most of the opinions are pretty funny… I still see SUV’s every day, they’re everywhere here in Arizona, so SOMEBODY is still buying them, so obviously there’s still a market for it. The market is probably going to follow the price of oil/gasoline pretty closely, just like that guns/butter chart you probably saw in econ class. I wouldn’t get one, but my reasons aren’t really fuel related – Most of the time, I like making turns at intersections at 50 mph and an SUV probably won’t let me ;P

Yes, but a CL63 is good, really really good, and is sold in small numbers to people who don’t drive them everyday… This Ford is for people who have bad driving skills and need to tow their dogs or whatever BS excuse they come up with. This thing will accelerate like a moped and drink like a Ferrari. It offers no advantages over a Freestyle or a 500.

You’ve the right to buy them, that’s your choice.

But you should also pay additional due to their impact. This is only partially offset by the higher, and thus more expensive, fuel consumption. Time to start playing real world economics and incorporating externalities that have to date been ignored into the costs of all goods.

I dislike SUVs. This one sucks. not just because it is from Ford. I dislike Humvees as well. I dont understand the point of driving around a humvee in the middle of a city. I bash SUVs and the people driving them. People need to stop driving SUVs!!! The only way I see Ford making money is if their SUVs go all electric and have a range of at least 300 miles!

Renton, consider that Ford is going to price the vehicle closer to the real selling price. Why price something at $50k if you’re going to always discount it $10k? I think you’ll find that the ‘06 buyer paid $10-12k less that sticker and the ‘07 buyer will end up somewhere close to MSRP for the first 6 months. That puts the 2007 product about $5-6k more than the previous year, which is about right in my experience.
