Bottom line is these cars are fun to drive. Ford and Shelby built a great car in the 60’s and now it’s back. If you get a chance to rent a GT-H or buy a new Shelby you will never be disapointed. I had a 65 GT350 clone and now a SRT8 Jeep, I can’t wait to rent my GT-H and drive such a great car. If you get a chance to own any of these Shelby’s don’t pass it up, I know I won’t.

Another STUPID from ford. For an extra 25+hp above the regular GT this car ain’t gonna sell. As far as the dealers, they will find out very quickly that this rental car will not sell with ANY surcharge—-just like what is happening with the GT 500. THe only hope ford has is to make the 400hp+ mercury or lincoln v6 twin turbo.

And speaking of surcharge, after the initial rush of “the gotta have its” the car will be going for below MSRP. To bad the big 3 can’t stop the harm that the ford dealers do by the surcharge tactic. They should worry more about their service depts.

I agree with Renton 100%. The main reason I love Mustangs is because they’re affordable performance cars. For less than $30K you can drive a brand new car with 300hp on tap and proper rear wheel drive. However, regardless of horsepower, once the Mustang starts hitting the mid to high 30s, I lose interest and start to look at something with much better suspension and braking, like a Corvette or a BMW.

With a starting point of $37K, plus options and markups, this thing wil surely be in 335i territory in no time. A 335i is a better muscle car for everyday use. (Yes the 335i is a muscle car…. a German GTO if there ever was one)

I never cross compare the Vette with the ‘Stang, the Vette is a pure sports car, the Mustang is a coupe. A fast athletic muscle coupe, but no sports car.

The whole idea of the Mustang was inexpensive performance.

well, you guys have to admit, its a great looking car…. but for a lil more, u can get a nicer sport/luxury car, that will destroy it… then again, this is a muscle car, so its only fair to compare it to a vette or camaro?

in the end it all come down to how much $$$ u can mod ur car…there are tons of mustangs doing 11’s and handle like sh*t though…

I like the car, but these mark ups and speculation don’t add up at all. I know that 60s muscle cars that have Shelby, Hemi, or SS badges are grabbing huge money at shows. But they are icons, the present mustang is a good car. In GT spec, a great perfomance oriented car for the money no doubt. Never will this present car become an icon in its own right and justify the money we are hearing that the dealers are marking up. Different era, different generation of kids.

Truong- too bad you can’t get a hold of a GT500 for MSRP, or anything close to it. Closest I’ve been offered was 5K over sticker.

But I would expect the same thing with this thing. Even though…it really is just a body kit and some shanty Ford Racing parts tacked on.

i dont understand whats so special about this shelby. i mean, the only thing that makes the GT500 so special is that it comes with 500hp for under $50k. so many cars will eat the Shelby and will do it with 6 cylinders.

Between 1965 and 1968 Shelby Mustangs were forces to be reckoned with. The 1969 (ironically my favorite looking Shelby) was rather bloated, which forced Shelby to withdraw from the whole Mustang business. The new Shelby Mustangs remind me more of the 1969 and 1970 models than the earlier, more honest efforts.

I’ll take a regular GT at a discount and with the right aftermarket parts, it could easily outperform the Shelby on the track every single time. I don’t give a crap about collecting it or showing it on Sundays at the local cruise-in. I want a car I can autocross and do HPDEs with.
