Then there is always Factory Ordered Recalls Daily,Flip Over Ride Design on and on.I am employed in paratransit fleet maintenance and we are never with out work thanks to Navistars great rush to market engines the 7.3s and 6.0,0hs.We did not mind the 7.3s but damn the 6.0s were at the dealers more than on the road, and now the warranty has expired and the learning curve is up there. The next purchase will be looked at a lot more stricter and may not be Fords...

Yep, that's them, and that's what they told me about why they drive Fords these days. They are actually friends of mine I met on the Great Race a few years ago. Nice people!

I like diesel cars, and if necessary for a job a diesel truck is good. I swear, though, that half of these Super Duty Diesels were sold near me and they are always more polished than a Porsche.

I think they need the power of a 7 liter diesel to haul all that chrome around.

injunraiv- Damn. What a small world it is :D

Location is right, but I'm not sure about the guys name, or him running in the Great Race. The Ernhert place is located in Trumansburg, not to far from Ithaca. I think close to their entire fleet is Ford, although I'm almost positive I have seen a Chevrolet 2500 over there too.

From what I understand, their trucks are a little older than the date when GM dropped the 8.1 liter, but regardless I've heard they've been good trucks. Also, I know quite a number of contractors that drive F-150's and F-250's, and they've been nothing but great. But damn, they're paying pretty hefty payments on the F-250, I guess that's the market their in.

drivemotorcityiron- I've also seen quite a few vans with weird looking front wheels. I haven't seen many Explorers, F-series, Expeditions or Rangers with crooked front wheels.

You know what's freaky though? A loaded Honda Pilot with just a few hundred pounds of concrete in it. I saw one yesterday being loaded at a warehouse, and the wheels were cambered horribly. I wouldn't be surprised if the wheels just fell off while they were loading it.

When will Ford recall all of the F-150s, 250, etc. Vans, Rangers, and Explorers running around with crooked front wheels? I swear every other one of these Fords I see on the road has front wheel camber so out of whack it makes the wheels on a road grater look straight.
Ford must have a problem with ball joints on its trucks. Also, has there been any recalls regarding Ford having issues with the spark plug blowouts on its Triton V8s?

I've had the O2 sensor replaced two times and the idle sensor one time on my lexus. Now the idle sensor is acting up again. If it weren't for the extended warranty I would have put a match to it, and I'm not talking about the sensor.

c6racer: yeah, i did finally get it fixed, and my dad has an '04 d-max as well, and gmc sent him a recall letter for the problem as well. apparently the '05's had different clusters, so hopefully my '07 won't have the same problem

jdasch1 is correct. Ford really needs to get their act together and find an alternative Diesel supplier. International's powerplants have caused Ford nothing but trouble and they make Ford look bad when something like this happens. Stupid marketing monkeys are running the show in Detroit, it seems... :-|

jayjc08 "Well, I know a nearby Erhnhert (es) propane supplier, and all of their trucks are Fords, and have been for the past few years. F-250's and F-550's. I ponder why that is. Also, Cornell just recently got a few Ford SD's, and I've heard they've been great vehicles too."

Holy cow, I think I know those guys! If it's them, they told me they drive Fords because GMC dropped the 8.1 in their light duty line. Why do they want the biggest gasoline engine available? Because they run on natural gas. it has nothing to do with the Powerstroke.

BTW, this would be in the Finger Lakes in NY, right? Guy names Overbaugh? Runs in the Great Race from time to time? ;)

Cam position sensor. It is made by a supplier to International (Navistar). Ford's problem with this diesel and the two following the 7.3 ( 6.0 and 6.4) is that it is made by Navistar. They build shit! GM has an Isuzu diesel (Duramax) and Ford should either bring a diesel from their European operation or get another supplier. We have been asking for this for years, and Ford has some real stupid people working in the Super Duty powertrain group...so it will not happen soon. On a good note...they make shitloads of money on the Super duty and sell 400k plus of them a year with a 70% or more mix of diesels in them...go figure. Its just a goddamm shame when they are broke down on the side of the road for a stupid $5 part failure.

I sometimes wonder if most of you even own a vehicle, let alone a Ford or a truck.

The sensors go out pretty often on trucks, but most of them aren't recalled. Usually, they go out in about 10 years, not 5-8, but I suppose it isn't a large gap.

The Duramax is a wonderful engine. I've heard it has lots of power, and I've only heard rave reviews about the current diesel in the Ford SD. I really want to try one out some time, but I have no need for such a huge truck!

planet drive- so you call someone stupid, and stoop down to their "intellect"? Smart buddy, smart. Also, learn some about automotive economics, you will learn that many people perceive a single car as representing the brands overall image.

The sensors go out pretty often on trucks, but most of them aren’t recalled. Usually, they go out in about 10 years, not 5-8, but I suppose it isn’t a large gap.

The Duramax is a wonderful engine. I’ve heard it has lots of power, and I’ve only heard rave reviews about the current diesel in the Ford SD. I really want to try one out some time, but I have no need for such a huge truck!

planet drive- so you call someone stupid, and stoop down to their “intellect”? Smart buddy, smart. Also, learn some about automotive economics, you will learn that many people perceive a single car as representing the brands overall image.

droppedgmc02- Well, I know a nearby Erhnhert (es) propane supplier, and all of their trucks are Fords, and have been for the past few years. F-250’s and F-550’s. I ponder why that is. Also, Cornell just recently got a few Ford SD’s, and I’ve heard they’ve been great vehicles too.

hbcbob3, it's interesting that it took you a long time to get your cluster fixed. My dad has an '04 DMax equipped Sierra and the dealer wasted no time in gettin it replaced. They even replaced the stereo head unit while they were at it because a few of the light bulbs in it burned out.

As for the recall, this does seem to be the year of faulty engine sensors, which are rarely made by the vehicle manufacturers themselves. They usually have suppliers of electronic components. Kinda like the problem with the iPhone screens a while back.

i like this raiv guy, d-maxes rule....but yeah, some of their recalls are just complete hooey! i had an '03 sierra in which the speedo would stick. it took me months to get it fixed after a recall. mainly because the company gm got their instrument panels from were being bitches because to get it fixed you had to show the dealership your sticking cluster. but everytime you turned your vehicle on and off it would reset, so you had to time it just right. anyway, my point is that some of their recalls are just complete bullshit write-offs while others are legitimate and a pain in the ass to get accomplished. and i'm not picking on any one company because they are all guilty of this from time to time.

and goddamnit people...i think some of you need a hug

Lambo - I don't think anyone is giving Ford a pass here. Personally, I thought the Toyota floor mat unintended acceleration recall was absurd, and this one seems a bit frivilous as well.

Oh and Crash - this engine wasn't the worst of the Ford diesels, but that isn't saying much. You probably have seen 200,000 mile engines, but I've seen plenty of them on my hook. As someone else said, the duramax is king!

hbcbob: You're bright. When cars last longer, they sell well, but not toward the top, because they don't need replacement as often

raiv: you're right

CTS: Probably the same company made the ford and Nissan sensors. Dump their stock if you got it!

gmc02. Ford has no must-haves. The GT could've been that, but the company messed it up.

First p-stroke 7.3 is a great diesel. The 2nd revd too high and is a self destructing fool of a motor. The new one is more conservative in its performance and design but its too early too tell if it is durable.
The duramax is awesome and very well proven and constantly being improved. The cummins is legend and always considered toughest most efficient mootoor ever.

planet drive i agree ford doesn't make a product that is a must have. Last night i looked at the new navigator......I am really big cadillac fan. So i wanted to see what the competition had in store. Luckly the cadddy dealership and lincoln are right next to each other here. The new Navigator interior was the most horrible interior made on the market today. It looks like its out of a late 70's lincoln and is in no way comparible to the new escalade. What was ford thinking. I think ford has no idea where they are heading changing name here and there. They are puttin all there eggs into the f150 and mustang basket and while those vehicles are ok at best they have nothing else to sell. They are going to stop making the ranger....its about time. They are going to start making the flex????that thing is cool on the inside but screwed up on the outside. I never would wish bad things on a American company but seriously ford get your stuff together or you will be the next enron....

They have already recalled the 07 super duties for spiting fire out of the exaust. They best selling because of fleets. Every oil company in my town except for national oil company uses super duties. There cheap and they get replaced every 100,000 miles by a new super duty. Ford needs to get it together.
