Ford is recalling certain Transit Connect vans from the 2011-12 model years for a potential windshield wiper defect. The recall covers 16,330 vehicles.

According to Ford, some Transit Connects from the 2011-12 model years may have left the factory with wiper arms that weren't properly riveted. Those faulty rivets could cause inconsistent windshield cleaning and the Dearborn-based automaker warns that the defect could even cause the wiper arm to completely fall off.

If the wiper arm fails, it could reduce the driver's visibility, increasing the likelihood of a crash. However, no crashes or injuries have been linked to the defect.

Ford will fix the problem by replacing both the driver's and passenger's side wiper arms, along with the van's blade assemblies. The recall is scheduled to officially begin on August 13.

Ford will be able to update the Transit Connect's wiper design in the not-too-distant future as an all-new version of the versatile van is expected to debut at next month's Paris Motor Show.
