Ford has announced the recall of 435,000 2005-2008 model year Mustangs. The recall is due to a software glitch, which can cause the passenger’s side airbag to deploy with more force than allowed by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Recall notices will be sent to Mustangs owners this week.
According to Automotive News, Ford dealers will not be able to sell or even give test drives in the affected vehicles until the software is updated.
Despite the recall, the Mustang’s five-star front-crash safety rating will not be impacted.

Come on it software, I am sure it doesn’t even take 10 minutes to flash. If you are in a big enough accident for the bag to deploy you have bigger problem than the bag deploying with more force than set by NHTS. At least it deploy.

Some of your guys’ comments are retarded.
bigp: Shut up. Do not bring Toyota into this. It’s so sophmoric when people bring up Toyota in domestic recall threads. No one can focus on the fact that FORD, yes that’s it, FORD, a domestic manufacturer, has a huge recall of its most popular vehicle. That is a problem. Deal with it. Stop trying to shift focus on the imports, that’s TOTALLY UNRELATED.
As for this, Ford is shooting itself in the foot here, too bad really, cause the Mustang is a good car.

LamwhoreghiniZ, the facts are this, when Yota has a recall its twisted in so many ways that the customers feel like the’re burdening Yota with the problem, when any of the big 2.5 have a recall its on the cover of evey newspaper, pending lawsuits, fatalities and rumors of bankruptcy.

That new Knight Rider movie/show sucked.
It was boring, infantile, and stupid. What a total disservice to the original, which was such a great show in its day.
The only people who I hear give positive reviews of it are idiotic Mustang fanboys, whose reviews comprise entirely of praising the fact a Mustang was chosen for KITT.
Which I think was a horrible choice to begin with. The image of the Mustang doesn’t fit that of KITT’s, in my humble opinion …
… which just falls in line with all the horrible choices and decisions they made for that pilot.

Just another recall…
I think something that a lot of people are over viewing when they complain about cars becoming more expensive is all the safety development they have to go through, and will have to go through in the next 10-15 years. That’s something governments really misunderstand. It’s not (usually) an unsafe car that creates an accident, but an unsafe driver. Not saying that we shouldn’t have airbags, but maybe people should also watch where their going when they walk in front of your car? I’m sure most of you know what I’m talking about, especially in Metro areas.

I’m more worried about JC going off too early – sorry dude but that’s a common problem – 2 min max for me.

Recall will not kill Ford, this or another recall. The fact that they spend more money then they can possibly bring in from building and selling cars will kill Ford.

Great news for Ford dealers. All customers will get a a free car wash and look at new Ford’s for sale while getting the recall preformed. Maybe eat some free cookies while they are there, as well as possibly trading it for something different. Got to love all of the recalls…its good business. Keep up the good work LLN!! We are now all safer for this important recall info…woopee.

Axehead you’re so right. If cars were like most computers you’d be risking death every time you pulled out of the driveway. And thanks for your concern. At my age the old supplemental restraint system ain’t what it used to be.

People, this is a SOFTWARE glitch! The very computer and router you use to access the internet need firmware upgrade regularly, so I guess you should junk them now and go back and live in caves!
This is not the same as some fuel line breaking and causing engine fires! It’s not mechanical in nature. It doesn’t affect drivability. Heck when Ford starts its own version of OnStar, it will just download the software automatically. So go and make a big deal out of a non-issue because it’s always easier to complain than complement, especially when it comes to Ford for some of you.
