about the price discussion:

- 1: In europe, there in fact are people who make 60k Euros a year or more. But they’re WELL above average income.
Average income is more like 30k Euros or less. Plus, take into account these amount are gross, so you can deduct about 50% of this for taxes and so on.

- 2: Have a look at prices for cars that are sold BOTH in the US and in Europe: for example the volkswagen passat: in europe its sold for about 40k Euro (more or less). go have a look what it costs in the us… last thing ive heard was something like 20k US-DOLLAR! go, do the conversion…

Fact is: in the western world, united states is amont the cheapest places to buy cars…
(No, im NOT saying Cars should be more expensive in the US… )

I meant One upping japanese cars when it comes to technology not just things you can incorporate like Blue Tooth. Things like Sync you can get credit for, but you need to go farther than the recent DARPA robot vehicles project. Can you handle the assignment Ford????

Its a sharp little car. The problem with Ford when they do get a hit. and its usuallybased on Looks they get all jazzed then go to sleep whereas the Japanese think Hmmmm how can be make this thing even better next year. And that has never been Ford’s mindset unless their back is to the wall. How dumb can you be. ANd Ford never ceases to amaze in the dumbness category. Good car. but your gonna have to start making them here and to make em so they can drive themselves. You need to start one upping the Japs not the other way around.

The reason it costs so much is local tariffs. The car costs around the same to produce it in the US or in the UK. The government adjusts the rest of the price.

If that makes it to N. America it’ll sell for 20-30k.

Regardless of what this costs, there can’t be any more sheetmetal if this Focus than ours. So how come this looks so elegant and ours still looks like a ’95 Escort. Good looking costs the same as dull. C’mom Ford, at least give us half the package.

Look, I love the Focus and all (seeing how I *have* an Mk1), but anyone who thinks there’ll be a market for a $45,000 Focus with the *same engine* as in our current $15,000 Focus is deluding themselves.

And if you *really* want this car, go buy a Volvo C70. It’s even priced about the same. It’s sad that us Americans can’t seem to pay for quality without a pretentious badge on the grille.

For reasons beyond my comprehension, they can’t bring this model focus to the U.S. It obviously does relate to the exchange rate, such as crash1433 had stated. I’ve heared that GM’s choice to convert opels to saturns is actually biting them in the ass for the same reason. Although, GM’s actually doing it, Ford’s being cautious. Some day we might get a Focus on a modern platform with decent looks, maybe.

But in terms of purchasing power, it’s not a $44,000 car to Europeans. They don’t see the exchange rate like we do, they just see Euros, and they make plenty of ‘em. They’re making E60,000 or E70,000, so an E28,000 car is right in their wheelhouse.

I will never understand why Ford thinks cars like this should be suppressed from the American market, then feeds us plastic boxes of shit instead.

Look at the prices. those of you who bitch about the euro focus do the conversion. 28000 euros is 44,400 dollars. I sell fords and I don’t know if I could ask $40000 for anything but a cobra or a diesel superduty. I have not doubt that the car would be a blast to drive but seriously. That is why the euro focus isn’t here yet.
