LamborghiniZ,

We do not platinum edition. My company will not as silly as you think. Folks in Borneo, especially here in Sangatta-South Borneo, do not drive for fancy.. We have many coal mines, so trucks are the most logical vehicles that we need. But i do not know if you folks in USA are using trucks for fancy... that will be ironic if you drive trucks in the city.

Thanks, Impulsive and Lackluster, for agreeing with me. Although, I don't necessarily want an ugly truck, just one I wouldn't be afraid to beat to hell. After all, what's a truck for if you can't beat it up? There was a time when trucks meant business, had no luxuries, had only AM radios, rode like an epileptic horse, and had the granny gears that would push a train. That's what trucks were meant for.

iHustle, the Edge is like the Spice Girls albums. Apparently, they sold tens of millions of albums, but I don't know a single person that owns one.

I think Ford's new marketing strategy should be the sympathy approach. They should say in an almost crying tone "please by our cars, please? were desperate and we need money. Why won't you buy our cars? I know our cars and truck are crap but we just don't know how to build them better."

Haha, marketing it to people who need trucks eh? That's why, for the first time ever there is a Platinum edition F-150, the farmer and contractor's FAVORITE and most attainable precious metal I'm sure!

Get Diesels (i think 3.0 CR Turbodiesel is good enough... good mileage and enough torque) and export them here in South East Asia. We have many coal mines here, we need such trucks indeed.

weird enough, all the people i know who own a f-truck (or comparable) are the kind of morons who buy it to look cool. partially, i understand... you look like a cowboy, look like your constantly exploring the frontier... but... why do that in downtown manhattan?

ford sold them well, and if it wasnt for the f-trucks, ford might yet have went to kingdom come...
i like the fact though, that people finally make up their minds about inefficient, gas-guzzling american engines... maybe european engines CAN guzzle as much gas as american ones, but a euro-engine will triple the outcome of HP vs. the US-Engine.

And know what? the us-automakers were RIGHT not designing more efficient engines... as long as people go on buying semis when all they need is a pinto, why should THEY bother making a more efficient engine?

oh, and, yes, i HATE the high gasprices, too, but maybe they did at least this one thing... make the average redneck american rethink his gas-guzzler down in the driveway...

beatus-
I've been telling the truck makers that exact thing for years. It would be an awesome model to offer the hard core. I would make it my next truck. But only if they didn't make it look like a parts house deliverer. But a raw, cool ride to go out and beat up.
My money is ready.

I hate the current trucks because they are so nice. I could never buy a truck in this day and age because I'd be afraid of using it. They look so nice and attractive, and the interiors are so plush and comfortable. Why can't someone just make an ugly truck with an ugly finish and rubber seats that could be sprayed down with a hose? Something that is just raw power, brute force, has no paint but is just the color of its raw materials. Then, I wouldn't be afraid to take it through the trees and over the rocks to get to the bricks that need hauling. That would be a working man's truck, and a truck I'd buy for sure. Dodge had the near perfect design a few years ago with the PowerWagon rebirth concept.

All the other obvious issues aside, the current and forthcoming crop of trucks are probably too good for their own good, and that's another reason for slow sales because people are simply holding onto their rigs longer. I credit Dodge for that when they introduced the new Ram in '94. Since then everyone has picked up their game. Remember the Ram before '94? Sure you get a Cummins, but the doors would fall off before the motor was even broken in.

"Corporate epiphany: 'Ford will market its new F-150 to those who actually need and use it for work'. No wonder they could not sell them before."

Need I remind you that the F series was the top selling vehicle for more than a decade? Sure, times have changed, and so Ford's marketing must change with them, but to say that they "could not sell them before" is a lie, and to say they should have marketed them differently when they WERE the top seller is rather foolish.

Just a few years ago, every car makers jump onto the luxury truck and SUV bandwagon. Those were the trims that sold. Even Porsche has gotten an SUV, while Honda got a truck. So Ford wasn't alone in not "market its new [truck] to those who actually need and ise it for work."

I will agree that people who bought these trucks for look are morons! With these "morons" having less disposable income, Ford is wise to switch strategy. They need to get a Ranger replacement ASAP and perhaps bring back the 4.2L V6 in the F150.
