Ford revives Boss 302 for 2007

10/31/2006, 10:49 AM

By admin

Ford announced at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show that it is reviving the legendary 5.0-liter 302 cubic inch V-8 engine for the aftermarket with a new line of BOSS 302 crate engines, which will go on sale in early 2007. The company also created a custom Mustang to showcase the engine.

Making its debut in 1969, the original BOSS 302 powered a limited production Mustang model sold for two years, which was known as the BOSS 302. The car got its name from the legendary engine that powered the Mustang to a Sports Car Club of American Trans-Am series win in 1970.

Entry level engines are rated at 340 and 345 hp. Higher performance versions include Ford Racing’s “Z”-head equipped 302 and 347 cubic inch engines rated between 360 and 450 hp, depending on configuration. The BOSS engine series is capped by a 500 hp 331 cubic inch engine. The suggested retail price for the BOSS 302 block is $1,759, with BOSS engines ranging from $4,650 to $10,000 for the 500 hp BOSS 331 cubic inch engines. The engines come with a 12 month/12,000 mile limited warranty. Gallery after the jump…

Heh, sounds like they’re finally making a reasonably priced crate mill. Maybe we’ll see less Chevy-powered Ford street rods in the future?.

(Yeah, yeah, not gonna happen, I know.)

One of those would be nice in a ‘50 Ford Coupe. Glad to see even if Ford refuses to sell cool cars, they atleast make a motor so you can make your own cool car.

You hear tales like that all the time. I know a guy that had a red ‘68 GT500 Mustang. He sold it in ‘75 for peanuts. The guy gets suicidal just thinking about it. Now in the condition his was, it’s worth a mint.

Yeah you know what the worse story about this one is ? I sold the BOSS 302 to a guy in a partial trade for a Shelby GT500KR and I only had that for two years and sold it for NOTHING TOO in 1978..

well andre makes a very valid point. i dont see any injectors or holes for injectors. also i see a hose niple on the throtle bodies. this usually is indicative of carburetors. anyways i find it wierd that it would use carbs. also i dont know how emisions standards are for crate motors. if they have any then carbs are out of the question.

Very nice mustang.
Attention!!! Ford has just released another model besides the GT & GT500 that has sparked interest. You know what that means right guys?? Give me a M, give me an A, give me an R, K, U, P!!! yay. I can just picture all the sales people right now scrambling to their desks looking for their rolodexes to find those few loyal beback customers they might have.
Booya!

1c3d0g,
Calm down, ateast your getting your money’s worth. Do I sense alittle anger?

I have nothing against Ford’s cars. Just how the dealerships offer incetives and rebates all year round because they’re desperate to sell something. Then when they release a model like this and the GT500 that actually sparks interest in the average consumer they try and screw him or her by slapping huge markups. Typical sleezy dealership games. And that’s mostly every Ford dealership i’ve been to in my area.
Im not old enough to remember but hear these muscle cars back in the day “were” affordable bang-for-the-buck cars that the average consumer could afford. I guess times have changed.

And being affordable doen’t mean going into debt for one.
