Aren’t all BMW’s rear drive ? Mercede’s builds rear drive too ? And both Chrysler and GM (Cadillac) build rear drive sedan’s too ? So why not Ford ?

Rene Curry, I did consider the possibility of an upmarket Lincoln cannibolizing Jaguar sales, but I was thinking to pit Lincoln against Cadillac and then move Jaguar up just a bit like 1 or 2 grand and use that for more luxurious materials, better mechanicals, etc. But yes, Lincoln should be under PAG and then just rid of Mercury as it no longer seres the purpose it once did.

Hey guys I actually want a Buick Enclave or a GMC Acadia (I will wait until i have driven one and felt the plastics before I buy one though) and I am a committed AUdi/VW fan so GM can get it right if it tries hard enough. The rest of GMs range is complete garbage though

WHy bother. Ford motor will always play second fiddle to the General. I’d place money on Ford’s eventual destruction within a year or two once the Generals resurgence has wiped them off the map for good.

Is this a push by Ford to start selling vehicles built outside of the US by non-UAW employees (see Fusion/Milan) and wait for the union to break down and decrease demands fearing that Ford would become the next importer of their globally best cost-wise competitive vehicles built somewhere else but without the “UAW tariff”? Might this be a ploy (like the rumored $9+B investment into the Mexican facilities) to ask the UAW to change or die?

They can’t call it ‘Falcon’ in the U.S.. Pepboys owns the rights to that name on their tires. However, Pep Boys could work a deal where the car has falcon tires and would get a percentage of every car sold. Wait, what’s 1 percent of zero cars sold??

What I don’t understand is why doesn’t Ford sell the same cars here that it sells in AU. The Australian Focus actually looks cool, and several other cars have much more style than the Fusion (yuck). I need to move to a different continent someday, maybe I can drive a car the way it was originally designed.

Thing2, My guess is they are keeping Lincoln at bay to keep the brand from competing with the Premier group of vehicles.
Myself, I would put all the Premier vehicles under one roof with Lincoln.

Renton is right, a small 4 door sedan with 300hp and rear wheel drive mated to a proper manual transmission would be a winner around $30K. TSX price and size but with rear wheel drive and 300hp? Put my name on that waiting list.

The ‘retro” name such as Falcon, LTD & Fairlane are still in use in Australia, so they are not retro there. If you weren’t so quick to bash Ford and actually read the article you’ll see that all they are saying is that Ford has a RWD platform to use for models here in NA, not that they are bringing any of those nameplates here.

The key words are luxurious and low quantity. So that means it will be a high priced halo car that few can afford.
Thunderbird – failure-high price
Soltice/Sky – success-value priced
GTO – limited success-high price
New Falcon = GTO

First automaker with a small, value priced, multi-engine option, 4 seater, rear drive handling platform will create and lead a new segment.
