Sales of Ford brand vehicles fell 11.6 percent in August 2006 compared to the same month last year, the automaker announced today. Lincoln sales fell 9.5 percent, and Mercury deliveries were down 12.7 percent. Sales of Ford’s new mid-size sedans (Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, and Lincoln Zephyr) were up 13 percent compared to last month (July 2006) for a total of 22,863. Notably, sales of the Ford Five Hundred fell 51.4 percent and Freestyle sales dropped 42.6 percent. Meanwhile, Mustang sales were up 64.2 percent and GT sales were up 26.5 percent. Jaguar sales fell 35.3 percent overall, with all models dropping about 45 percent, except for the new XK, which was up 106.8 percent. Land Rover sales dropped 19.4 percent, with similar declines across the model lineup. Volvo sales were down just 2.1 percent — with the C70 up an incredible 1,314 percent. The S60 and XC90 posted 16 percent gains. Mazda sales were mostly flat. [data sheet]

How many month on month falls can Ford sustain before they are actually buying the cars back?

OK .. and I know the negatives here will call me a fanboy, but let;s get one thing straigth
(well couple things0
- last august was still employee pricing month
- secpite that overall car sales are UP 6%
- truck sales are rdown 21%
F-series fell 15%, but I can bet you $5 that this is LESS of a decline that GM and DCX will post on their full size trucks – because the segment is simply shrinking.
- so was this a good month – not really
- was this a disastrous month – hardly … if they could beat last years car sales wthout the employee pricing gimmick, that is notable – do not expect similar feat from DCX (GM might manage a similar result)

Igor, monthly reports don’t matter much as the bigger pic. I’d like to see a full 1 year sales history before making any detailed comments.

Employee Pricing Igor? Yeah they had that last year, but now they have 0% for 72 months AND YOUR CREDIT CAN STINK!! And they still are getting anyone to buy. Again this is proof that FOrd spent to much energy on trucks and SUVs and not enough in cars. Look their Fusion/Milan sales are up, Mustang up, but all trucks and SUVs are down (the Five Hundered as well but Ford missed the chance to design something really cool when the 427 concept debuted, only for us to get the bland Five Hundred).
Jaguar posts losses mainly because all of its models are old. The Xtype has been a misstep since day one since everyone knew it was just a tarted up Ford Mondeo in Jag Drag. A new S-Type is around the corner, so their may be hope still left with Jag. Land Rover I am not so sure about, I am sure the gas prices have stuck it to them perhaps, but with gas prices falling again, who knows.
Ford needs t owork on thier car portfolio and stop worrying so much about Explorers, Expeditions, etc….Start getting some B-Segment cars out and a new and really awesome Focus. Dump Mercury and make special interior trim packages for their identical Ford models if Ford buyers want a fanicer interior.

why does everyone pass on “English” vehicles? You can’t give the damn things away. Rolls/Bentley excluded….but they are not exactly high volume items.

You see, this is exactly what I’m talking about. The sales tell everything. Jaguar – sell it to someone, anyone. Mercury, just kill it. Make the Freestyle less “wagon-like” and more “Mini-SUV-like”, the Five Hundred I don’t know, but it needs major attention, this is the mid-full-size sedan market we’re talking here! Lincoln same deal, it’s gotta be higher quality. Mustang and GT are doing great, don’t mess that up Ford. Mazda is down, probably because of the recent negative news about its rotary engines etc. Don’t worry about it, things should turn around soon. And Land Rover, well, nobody is interested in an ugly, gas-guzzling SUV. For the love of God keep Volvo, never sell it. I really believe great things can come out of this one.

If Ford thinks that by replacing all grilles with the “3 bar design” they can make a vehicle interesting, they are denying reality.
The 500 is a failure, from the lackluster name to the VW design. The redesign released in a spy photo today is pathetic.
The Explorer was redesigned, and they went back to massaging the original design that is 15 years old. Those trucks looked old when released as new.
The Expedition is a joke, the same design philosophy as the Exlporer.
The Focus is dying and no one is paying attention. Once again the 3 bar grille is suppossed to make it new.
There is no news from Ford. At least GM is trying to reinvent itself with new product. Not all the styles will be hits, but at least you will have something new to attract buyers into dealerships.

Very good progress for Volvo. C70 sales are good, and next year should be great for them as well with the new C30 and S80. I’m very worried about Jaguar. Their sale could be around the corner…

Oh…one more thing…if the U.S. government was to send the illegal immigrant home, Ford will suffer more (more than GM). Go figure if you don’t understand what was I talking about. LOL
