Ford sees European share top 10 percent

10/12/2009, 3:57 PM

By Andrew Ganz

Ford’s European operations broke the important 10 percent market share barrier for the first time since September of 2001 thanks in part to strong demand for the Fiesta.

Ford’s September sales accounted for 10.1 percent of the European market, which covers 19 countries, by selling 152,600 new vehicles. That’s a 12.3-percent increase in vehicle sales, which helped increase the automaker’s market share by an impressive 0.8 percent over September 2008 figures.

“Traditionally we expect Ford to have a good month in September given the surge of new car sales in the U.K. due to the registration plate change. But September 2009 has surpassed expectations,” said Ingvar Sviggum, Ford of Europe’s vice president for marketing, sales and service, in a statement released by the automaker.

The Fiesta had its best month September since 1994 with 51,400 units sold.

those 8 mpg suburbans will be legislated out of existence by then…and that’s not necessarily a bad thing…i’m hopeful the fiesta will be well-received here in the states…i’ve said it before, but it would’ve been nice for ford if they had the fiesta out before cash for clunkers hit, they would’ve sold a bazillion…

When the ecoboost 1.6l hit the Focus… Then you’ll see a good 12 to 13% market share.

Only if the Mustang would have the 3.7L in it today I’d be another Ford customer.

FORD is making all the right moves both foreign and domestic, if GM doesnt turn the ship around which still looks murky FORD will be the only American auto maker in 5-10 years

10 percent? Isn’t that the same completion percentage JaMarcus Russell had against the Giants yesterday?

It hink that Ford ought to get the Iosis Max underway in Europe if they want to take more of the Euro market

no surprise, their kinetic design is really good looking, compared to the awful design from the 90s. Their joint venture with Peugeot on diesel engine gives them one of the best diesel engine on the european market (smooth and reliable engines). No wonder their cars are a hit in Europe. But I think they should scrap the Ford Ka, it generates useless competition against the Fiesta

No they shouldn’t, Volo! Ka is quite cheaper and smaller than the fiesta.

STFU Chevyman..stop your balling nobody cares about your crying like a baby over GM’s lack of sales for cars that truly suck and are total POS.

Some GReek i agree if Ford wants to find where the true market is they need to bring the KA out too. That is a nice little car and would do well I think in any market plus it will strength Dealer Floor traffic because it will be ultra- afordable.
