Ford sells former Taurus/Sable plant property

06/12/2008, 4:06 PM

By Drew Johnson

Although there is some hope that General Motors will someday reopen its Oshawa truck plant, anyone waiting for Ford to redevelop the site of a former car plant in Atlanta is out of luck. The Dearborn-based automaker announced on Thursday that it has sold the 122 acre plot of land that used to house its Mercury Sable/Ford Taurus production facility.

Jacoby Development Inc. is the new owner of the site and will develop the site into a mix of office, retail, restaurant, hotel and airport parking space, according to Automotive News. The site is located near Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

The plant opened in 1947 and began producing the Taurus/Sable twins in 1985. When the plant closed in 2006, it employed 1,950 workers and had produced over 7 million of the popular sedans.

Not shocking Ford seems to be moving a lot of production to Mexico.

The Atlanta plant was in a ghetto that makes Mexico look like La Jolla.

I wonder if they’ve got any of those oval Taurus back windows lying around? I could use a new skim board for the lake this summer.

Noname, no one cares where you slept. And, by the way, your mom has been sleeping under my house. Bitch chased out the rats. I’ll send her home when she finishes up chasing off the gophers, too. Thanks.

Was hoping they would convert this plant to make the Fiesta, but at least selling the land gets Ford more money.

Taurus was a good car…just a bad transmission.
Never trust a Ford tranny with FWD.
