Well, I own(ed) an early 90's Ford Taurus Station Wagon-Had few problems with it, and it had great storage. Too bad it has rat fur carpeting, and a pretty ugly interior. All in all though, I hope you get your Taurus X, those who mock station wagons don't know what they're talking about.

And yeah, your right, their not selling them like Camry or F-series, but sales are good.

Comment doesn't warrant defense. That would imply you poignantly identified some flaw with it, and since you're clearly a fucking tool, that would be an impossibility. Do you know what a non-sequitur is? Look it up. Convicted pedophile, you shouldn't even be allowed near a computer!

all the dealer had was loaded, bloated ones.

Ford's profit came from continuing operations and was bolstered by the sale of Aston Martin. Ford's NA loss was $500 million less than last year at $279 million. Their mortgage was cash transaction only. You can't take out a mortgage against the value of your house and call it income. The SEC wouldn't look to fondly on Ford if they did that.

Mulally said during the call that Q3 and Q4 will be rough in terms of income and cash burn. I would assume the income drop will be because of higher input prices and probably weaker pricing position, but I'm not sure where the cash burn is coming from. I would assume it is R&D money and tooling for the upcoming 2009 models, but that's only speculation. It's unclear to me how Europe will affect Q3 and Q4.

A Jag/LR sale is probable, but not definite. There seems to be some interest in shopping Volvo, but it's not clear if Ford is pessimistic because of the price it would require a buyer to pay or because no one will be in the market for a brand by the end of the year as the private equity markets cool.

The best part of the earnings call was the statement that Ford had $35.7 billion in cash and equivalents and that the restructuring might end up costing them $1 billion less. So, it's clear they don't need to sell Jag/LR to fund their turnaround. It is more likely they are trying to remove liabilities, but would manage if Jag and LR were not sold. That's the most encouraging part.

Now, we sit and wait for a weak second half of '07 and see what '08 brings.

This is good news for Ford but what I'd really like to know is why LLN insists on posting so much damned conjecture? Especially when dealing with subjects like this why not wait the extra fucking day to report on the actual numbers? There is no need having back to back posts contradicting each other when all you have to do is just wait one goddamn day!

Deanster, you don't know xxxx about accounting. Re-financing profit doesn't have anything to do with profit. It could affect cash flow, yes. But that is a separate issue.

"I'm not sure you can take money gained from remortgaging and call it a profit. That would be like me using my credit card and saying "look, profit."

Well done OGSharkK6, that's EXACTLY what is happening. Hence the idiocy of the newsfeed.

And the Q2 gains are greater than the Q1 losses, so for this fiscal year, money has been made. It can't make money in North America though. Hopefully soon.

Stop partying prematurely. This version fo the story skimps a little on the details. The so-called "profit" stems from the remortgaging of multiple factories to finance the upcoming wave of debt. All they managed to do is create some extra cash that's going to get sucked into the vortex of shit business practice Ford is so famous for.

It may sound stupid asking this but, is this the net profit for all of Fords markets, or just American?

Regardless, it's good to hear that Ford's doing better.

Global Lightning... Ford Freelander? Do you mean Escape?

Jackjimturkey... Currently their sedans are selling pretty well. I don't know about the Taurus X though.

The new Taurus is a really nice car. It's one of the safest and roomiest cars you can buy currently... it doesn't mark a milestone like the old Taurus did, but Ford did a great job with it.

Scarface:

On the surface, killing the cars seems risky, but Ford doesn't seem to make any people (besides Mustang enthusiasts, cops and those who don't mind being mistaken for cops) want to buy in great numbers.

Their trucks and SUVs are profitable.
Maybe they should keep the focus around to lure the youngsters in and build brand loyalty

You obviously haven't gone to check out the new Tarus, its not like the old Tarus or the 500. And why drop the Edge? It sells more units in its class than any other crossover!

Why drop the Fusion? It's their best car. The Taurus 500, gotta go. Edge/Taurus X/Freelander, gotta go. And replace the Crown Vic with the Interceptor; 30 years of the same platform is enough.

jackjim, any car manufacturer focusing in any part on a truck-based SUV is asking for trouble.
I'm happy for Ford, although, I think philsshon is right--let's see how the rest of the year bodes for Ford.
And I disagree, I still say Ford should sell off Jag and Land Rover (keep Volvo, because it's profitable). That may yet make the difference for them at year's end.

I've owned both of the cars you wish to fellate, and I'm never buying another of either!

Ford simply needs to drop all of it's cars except the crown vic (cops and taxis) and the Mustang, and focus on trucks and Explorers

I'm so glad to see this. Even though I'm a longtime Toyota fan and customer, it's good to see Ford turning around the same old way of doing business. I'd love to buy American, but the product isn't good enough to justify an average of $25k. Maybe in the next couple of years they'll turn around their product line-up with the euro and aussie offerings coming over. Build the freaking Interceptor damnit!

Poor, poor media! Who are they going to blame for this happening? The fact is by removing 5 billion a year in management overhead and shutting down the old "baseboard heater" assembly plants, this car company would really have to screw up NOT to make a profit. Toyota has bigger rebates than Ford does on most of they're products. Toyota has the most # of recalls in the industry. But profit is still king, and Toyota is raking in the cash next to all others, therefore the darling of the industry in the eyes of the media. The c-max, Flex, the new diesel in the F150 in 2009 and reduced fleet sales will show Ford as the new darling soon. $750 million in 90 days is awesome!
