Ford changes TwinForce name to EcoBoost

Last month it was reported that Ford would likely drop the name TwinForce from its new line of engines, and today the Detroit automaker officially changed the nameplate to EcoBoost. The TwinForce name first appeared on Ford’s Lincoln MKR concept car and was intended to convey the power of a V8 but the fuel economy of a V6. However, Ford was concerned that consumer will only see TwinForce name as an increase in power, completely overlooking its fuel-economy attributes.

TwinForce “was a good thought, but we’re trying to make it more understandable for customers and make sure they understand this is a substantial fuel-economy benefit,” Derrick Kuzak, group vice president-global product development, told WardsAuto. “We’re not sure TwinForce gave that impression.”

The new line of engines is expected to debut in the flagship Lincoln MKS, which is slated to hit the market next year. An EcoBoost four-cylinder engine also powers the recently unveiled Ford Explorer America concept.

According to Ford, EcoBoost will pay for itself with fuel saving in three years. In comparison, it takes about seven years for a diesel to pay for itself in fuel-savings and eleven years for a hybrid.

Oh great, now it’s just a matter of time before they rename it “ECOFORCE” and start slapping those letters in bright green on future Lincolns.

Ford: BOLD MO-aw, who gives a **** anymore…

How about “WeenieForce”, “WussForce”, “NutlessForce”, or something that is more realistic in terms of the forced CAFE standards from your Imperial American Government, “FascistForce”. Just give it a V8 and let them eat carbon!

isn’t this proof that there are still too many “non-risk takers” out there. with fear of offending, they made bland vehicles (see Five Hundred) and now they’re going to make bland names to something noteworthy?

Thank goodness they got rid of the Bold Moves function because at least now they’re not being hypocritical.

Hurricane and TwinForce… isn’t in your face what the 300C and the new Cadillac’s are succeeding with?

They might as well license the Hillary Clinton brand… middle of the road, no answers to any questions, non-committal and totally destined for mediocrity.

Obviously a red state guy on this end… and life long Ford supporter but goodness, enough blah is enough.

Why would Ford even announce this before they came up with something new? Oh why does it even matter? Who will be buying Lincolns anyway? Although there are some scary cheap leases out there right now for the MKS and MKX.

Keep the Twin-Force name and put it in the next Mustang. That car’s got good HP but needs serious help in the MPG department. Dumping the iron truck V6 would be a vast improvement. I remember back in the day when Ford offered a Cosworth Turbo 4, now a very rare and sought after car.

I personally liked those V8 badges the Fords wore. They looked classy. Anyways, people who do their homework won’t care what it’s called as long as it does what they say it’ll do. ..

Captain Planet and the Planeteers will all drive Fords now. Whatever the name is, mainstream forced induction across an entire product line is good news.

The Name Twin force could be taken the wrong way to mean some kind of Hybrid electric drivetrain. But concerns that people will only see it performance boosting is just BS. You want to sell performance and sneak in F/econ on the side.

Think having your Fruit Loops while forgetting that Kelloggs ground up muilt-vitamins and added them to the cereal. The power is sweet, and the F/econ is good for you too.

FIAT is developing mind boggling technology (small diesels, that Ford buys in Europe from FIAT), camless engines. Ford renames models which no one expressed any interest in acquiring. Somewhere Henry’s sperm went astray.

Crappy name, good numbers.

Reading from another source these engines make 340+hp/340+lbs/trq in the V6 and 280/250+ in the 2.0L 4 cylinder. Pretty impressive if you ask me.
