The Big Three have already cut tens of thousands of hourly positions in order to aid their North American turnaround plans, and one of the domestic automakers will now be setting its sights to eliminate thousands of salaried workers.
Ford announced on Wednesday that it will be slashing its U.S. salaried workforce by 10 to 12 percent, according to The Detroit News. The cuts are a direct result of Ford’s stalling North American turnaround plan, which was recently pushed back to at least 2009.

Unlike Ford ’s previous cuts, this round will not be voluntary. Ford will be handing out thousands of pink slips by the end of July.

Ford has about 20,000 white collar workers in the U.S., meaning 2,000 or more people could be getting their walking papers.

According to Ford vice president Jim Farley, Ford will not be the only automaker to make these kinds of cuts. “I would expect other car companies to make similar announcements,” Farley told his employees Friday. “They have the same issues that we do — even Toyota .”
