Ford will apparently drop its SFE – “Superior Fuel Economy” – badge from 4.6-liter, 4×2-versions of its popular F-150 XL at XLT pickups for 2010. The Dearborn, Michigan, automaker had installed the badging to market the 21-mpg highway rating and to keep pace with rival General Motors’ XFE (“Xtra Fuel Efficient“) label.
PickupTrucks.com asked Ford spokesperson Anne Marie Gattari about the decision to remove the badge.

“Since all [of] our 4.6-liter 3-valve 4x2s will achieve 15/21 fuel economy label, there’s no need for [the] SFE [model],” she said.

Unlike the GM products, the F-150 did not require any aerodynamics modifications to achieve the 21 mpg.
