mujician, no, i havent owned one, why would i spend hard earned money on a car that doesn't meet the quality standards set by the class leaders? However, I do know a lot about them, and a lot about cars in general, so I have every right to say my opinion, which in this case, is far closer to fact that opinion. Using your logic, none of us have the right to have opinions/make comments on cars we haven't owned, so think twice before you comment on any vehicle by Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc, because you couldn't possibly know anything about them, because you havent ever owned them...right? WRONG.

Good the Taurus was always a rubish car, when the 1996 Ford Taurus came to Australia it was a complete sales Faliure, no one liked them. So its good they are scrapping the car.

Mujician, I used the Taurus back in 1989 and it wasn't a very good car compared to the Accord. Yea the Americans loved it but so what? They messed it up and it dies. I have to agree with LamborghiniZ this time.

I'm not sure why everyone is on here saying shit like, "the taurus, great car, fantastic piece of machinary, blahblahblah". because guess what? The current generation Taurus that is being killed off, quite frankly, sucks ass. It sucks so much ass, actually, that for years Ford sold them for THOUSANDS under MSRP, because, people, let's face it, compare a 2002 Taurus to a 2002 Camry, Accord, Altima, or Mazda6, and the difference is apparent. The Taurus was bland, outdated, understyled, boring to drive, moderately reliable but nothing like the 4 mentioned above, and had absolutely atrocious fit and finish/interior trim quality. Mediocre car, at best, shitty car, at worst.

or why not bring the Mondeo here as a Taurus? then the legend could continue on what will be a great car. Ford wont do it anyway, considering they're probably going to continue to drag out this stupid nameplate bullshit with F's for cars (focus, fivehundred, fusion, freestyle) and E's for SUV's (explorer, edge, escape, expedition). Screw their logic and keep the Taurus name for a car WORTHY of it.

They ought to bring us a Mondeo SHO. Its too bad they didnt give us a new SHO to go with the current Taurus. I bet it would have boosted sales, as it would have boosted the image of what was otherwise known as a bottom-rung option.

The car was a piece of crap, but it was ubiquitous. Plenty of parts around. Ford had a success story with that vehicle. If only they had improved the Taurus over the years, things would have been fine.

Although the cars were problematic, they came in a package that most Americans, including I, liked. The cars were roomy and prectical. Parts of them were solid, parts were coposting as you drove the car.It didn't cost an arm and a leg to fix. Taurus, you will be missed. RIP

But I really dont think they should kill it. Ford should redesigne it make it what it could and should be. Take a already Euro designed Car bring it here call it the NEW Taurus and move on it will sell becasuse people remember them and we would get all the people back that are now buying the Camrys and Accords.

Had A Few Ford Taurus's And All I have to say is that they were the best car out there untill 1996 when they went to a oval body that was just to much look with no cool futures inside that really defined the old T-dogs.
Anyways RIP maby we will see it again in 10 years when they bring it back right.

@anapat7 and ANONYMOUSPSYCHOPATH,

General Motors has working hard to reduce its reliance on fleet sales. It recently announce success in this effort. To win a fleet contract, you must submit the lowest bid. Fleet contracts may put tires on the road, but they don't put money in the bank.

Icedog, go easy on him, he's Canadian ;)

Well the Fusion and 500 were suppose to fix the whole thing. Chalk it up to a multi-billion dollar lesson learned. Domestics, especially Chrysler, need to take a page out of Porsche's and BMW's play book. You put a 3 series from the early 80's next to a 3 series today and it's very evident that both are a 3 Series BMW. Put an Impala from the late 70s next to one from the 90s and one today. They all could not be more different. Always looking for the next best thing really. That's Chrysler's game. Chrysler's entire lineup is virtually scrapped every 7 years for something new and different. Tuarus had the potential of being a timeless design until they scrapped it in favor of the oval jellybean.

It's obviouse the people with the negative comments are either young jackass' with their heads up their ass or people expecting way to much from the most sucessfull midsize car ever. It is only a midsize car. Granted the SHO was quite the machine. But after 21 years you do have to move on. People need fresh ideas at least every 7 years.

CROWN VICS HAVE BEEN A MAINSTAY FOR COPS AND CABS FOR COUNTLESS YEARS. GM AND DAIMLER CHRYSLER WERE STUPID FOR DUMPING THIS PLATFORM. THESE NICHES NEED V8 RWD PLATFORM OPTIONS FROM THE BIG THREE. IT WOULD ALSO BE NICE TO HAVE V8 OR V10 TDI OPTIONS FOR CABS. AMBULANCES AND PARATRANSITS HAVE LOVED THESE FOR YEARS. TOW TRUCKS ALSO. IT'S TIME FOR THE SEDAN AND WAGONS TO STEP UP AND OFFER THESE OPTIONS.

Ford's US arm neglects everything that's remotely succesful. Started with the Taurus, then the Explorer, then the Focus.
They are killing the goose that laid the golden egg.
Even with the outdated styling, the Taurus is selling 3 times better than the Fusion/500/Freestyle.
Well, Chevrolet will have a field day next time fleets are purchased. Ford will have no suitable car and the Malibu/Impala will become the new 'company car'.
Next thing, Ford will kill the Crown Victoria so that Chrysler can take over the police car business with their Charger.
Ford is still making very stupid decisions even with the new CEO.

This car was once America's best selling car. Ford was stupid to allow this nameplate to die without a fight. The original Taurus was quite modern looking during its reign. The same cannot be said about the current Ford lineup which look as boring as SUVs. Maybe a rebadged Ford Euro-Mondeo will do quite nicely as the new Taurus.

They did make great corporate cars. The SHO models, especially the early ones, were nice.

The AWD Ford Mondeo is long overdue, however.

The new European Ford Focus has a strong resemblance to what a modernized Taurus would look like.

My friend had an 01 Taurus. First the engine literally caught fire due to a leak of some fluid. Second both rear suspension springs broke while he was on the highway, and the right rear spring cut a groove into the tire that nearly punctured it, which could've been potentially fatal had his tire burst while going 75.

Yeah, good car.

I drive my Sable with pride. The first gen was futuristic and redefined the midsize segment, and the second gen provided a unique design. No one looks at my car and mistakes it for anything else, and that's cool, because I really think it looks sharp.

And I wouldn't say they let it die...I mean, the Fusion is as different from the Taurus as the second gen Taurus was different than the first gen. They just changed the name this time.

Deja vu all over again ... this time, there's no one coming up with something to "be a big deal when it comes out". What are the monkeys at the top doing?

Someone please get a banner and fly it over Ford HQ ... "Look, you need something really different, really new, that will kind of set the pace out there."

Hey Jack, talk to Mr. Ex-Boeing, clean out the house of monkeys, and get some guys with balls to make the right decisions in design. Then build.

The Edge is a step in the right direction but not remotely close to being the Taurus of the new millenium. How many times has this been discussed? A few people posting here have the common sense, tomorrow, to help turn this company around ... one exception, "c3p0" who's worthless (as exemplified by that remarkably insightful post above) ... but monkeys at the top continue to make easy money when they should be washing my car on a weekly basis.

the old SVOs were a steping stone to the SVT vehicles we USED to enjoy before the cutting down. Ford had alot of good sellers and somehow they are all going down the shit can. While i understand ford cant run off of Terminators and Lightings and the SVT trim down was necissary what do they have to show for killing off its proformance cars. Who wants a Freestyle, Fusion or 500. Ford needs to get its ass in gear before they get tired of F-Series trucks and its crutch the Mustang. I love ford for the Mustang and I drive mine with pride but wake up ford you need to move forward and someother way but boldly cause your "bold moves" are crap.
