Unless they give the Fusion a major overhaul (in looks and features), this will wind up being a car sold to a very limited few. To compete with the likes of an Audi S4, you need a lot more than just raw power.

Sounds like the Fusion is going to get some nice goodies under the hood. While I like the look of the Fusion, it does need to be updated badly. It better be no later than 2010. EcoBoost, and AWD will give it some nice straight line performance, but it’s also going to need some major suspension enhancements or else it’s just another fast heavy car that we don’t need. If SVT heads it then I have hope they’ll give it a complete do-over, and work on its weak points, As far as looks go, as long as they don’t try and dress it up with fake hood scoops like they do on the Mustang, it may be similar to the Mazdaspeed 6.

The turbo-4 is a nobrainer. The Fusion shares the same platform as the Mazda6, I wouldn’t be surprised if the engine is a variant of the now discontinued Mazdaspeed6 MZR.

Z06ified + 1. No stick, no deal. I continue to be baffled by Detroit’s reluctance to offer 3 pedals on anything but the lowest end vehicle, or the highest, or the odd pickup truck. Ford does offer 3 pedals in the Fusion with the 2.3, so it’s not like they have to re-engineer everything from the firewall forward.

This is a preview to what the next gen Mazdaspeed6 will offer if they decide to make it, otherwise this will be the other option. At least the MS6 would/should offer a manual transmission.

In regards to Xyuna’s comment. Im not quite understanding the comparisson between Ford and GM. Every one of Fords vehicles Demolish GM’s sales #”. Focus is the #1 Domestic small size sedan in the country. Edge is the best selling cuv in the market and the highest rated. Fusion demolishes the impala. Lets not even speak on trucks because we know who the king is. If ford didn’t have plenty of capital, wouldnt you think an SVT would be out of the picture? Ford is doing fine and to even compare them to some of there quickly slumping america friends(Chrysler and GM) would be unfair. I think this is a fantastic idea, and i was upset when they got rid of the lightning. There not trying to make an S4, there giving you the power of one, with a much cheaper price tag.

Ford is a bankrupt company. Ford can not even obtain working capital loan and currently mortgaged all factories and real estate holdings. It has no working capital except of the lump mortgage sum. It sold 28% less vehicles last month then a year ago. It is #2 from the bottom (sounds like poop isn’t it?).

Are you speaking on the F-150’s fully boxed frame monte? There over sized leaf springs to give you that ride that is expected? Monutube shocks to help hug the road, or the switch on the fly 4×4 system. I know my stuff, the way the f150 is designed is the reason for its outstanding sales. It is simply the “best” truck and sales reflect it. May i say best selling vehicle in the market.

need4speed- Just to let you know, Ford offered more colors than just black… It just became a fad, outdated.

monte- Ford Focus, Edge and F-150 are all top selling. Fusion is selling very well. Explorer recently was top selling. Ford Focus, Mondeo is selling in huge numbers overseas, and South American market is booming. Not sucking up for Ford, but I would personally say their products are fairing better than GM’s. Ford has a good compact/mid-size line-up, a well established pick-up line and some very good products coming up. Feel free to criticize, but I see GM putting huge amounts of resources into a radical vehicle that they’ll be loosing money on, extra versions of an already stretched line of SUV’s and a Cobalt that will be even more like the Korean version, let alone still being years behind the Civic, Corolla in terms of looks, equipment, etc.. Not to say it’s a bad car, but I doubt many consider it a good vehicle.

When Ford’s Model T first came into production they did offer more colors then just black… But up to a certain year Ford only offered the Model T “in any color as long as it was black” which I was just stating historically is about the time GM started to surpass Ford by offering more models, and color choices.. but that was it. I’m actually a fan of classic and vintage Ford’s like the “Deuce Coupe” so I’m not to say I’m a Ford hater or anything… I’m really not.
