Ford to move Asian HQ from Bangkok to Shanghai

06/18/2009, 9:09 AM

By Andrew Ganz

Ford says that it is planning to transfer the bulk of its executives working on Asia, Pacific and African operations from Bangkok, Thailand, to Shanghai, China, in an effort to streamline its operations. The automaker will retain offices for the 10 countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Bangkok, however.

“We will be moving functions and expertise to locations that best meet our business needs,” Ford spokesperson Whitney Foard Small told the Detroit News. “We are still studying the options available to determine which locations offer us the most efficiency and practicality.”

China is set to surpass the United States as the world’s largest automotive market. General Motors moved its Asian headquarters from Singapore to Shanghai about five years ago when it began to see sales take off in the Chinese market.

Well if this is to be the new auto market then Ford Motor is doing the right thing for themselves. I mean China use to be all agrarian and the land of the Bicycles ..well not anymore. I suspect that China will eventually join the competition (that Mulally left) not only in the car market with their gazillion automakers that they are trying to reduce down but they too will have a Chinese Airbus and Japan the next Boeing.

“Bangkok the Detroit of Asia”.
That was the moniker used by Bangkok International Motor Showorganisers. That was ten years ago. Now the tables have turned. China did wake up and now it’s “feed the monster”. No more bicycles, motorbikes, yes.Cars, family cars YES! And we want our car now! Four wheels, four doors, five gears and a radio. Color maybe Cathay white will be the newcolor. Millions and millions are waiting for these vehicles. Any brand. Engine size less than a 1.000cc, of course. Here only price will matter.
Economies of scale. And look at the scale. China that’s a scale.

Borat I think they driver of the tank might be too eager to roll over the car. Plus he could always roll right over the Hood and still spare the passenger. That’s kind of nasty. But the Communists that control China could and are nasty with how it handles its people. Their Human Rights Violations are insame. I mean having Roving Lethal Injection Mobiles that pick up people that you never hear from again! or and picking up certain individuals privately and taking them out to the country to blow their head off then charge the family for the bullet they used to Kill their Son, Daughter, father, mother for doing anything the Government deemed against its Communist Regime! How nice. Are’nt you glad Borat you live in the US where people can have those thoughts privately but the Goverment protect you and I. USA at least we have rights. The poor Chinese now work in Child labor and adult labor camps. Sowing Sweat Shops etc etc etc
