CA36GTP- Alright, tell us more about this chassis that you claim needs to be totally replaced. And seriously, you sound horribly biased when every comment you make, whether or not it's a positive or negative thing about the Mustang, you have to bring up some almost irrelevant or assuming comment about how bad the Mustang is.

And personally, I think the Mustang's interior is one of the nicest interiors out there. It looks very nice, the materials are good quality, it's fairly roomy. The rear seats and the rear panels are the ONLY things of real concern that I didn't like.

SS4life- The production figures are going to be lower for the Challenger from what I've read. All the way to the base model to the top of the range one, it's not supposed to be as high as the Mustang or Camaro.

Fletch- I think this is going to go for men also. Obviously, it's more "women friendly", but personally I think it has a sort of cool factor to it that I would go for. It's probably the fact that nobody but Ford really offers anything like it in such a low price car.

golf4me- I would also like a sunroof, probably more than a glass roof. As long as the sunroof doesn't leak.

noah- So far, Ford hasn't had any major water leak problems with this sort of thing (Edge, MKX).

TOZO- Also true. The 3.5, or even Mazda's slightly larger V-6 would be really nice.

glad to see the roof! My MKX has a Panoramic roof and I wish it was even bigger than it is. It doesn't leak and is cool to the touch in 100 degree temps. Hardly any greenhouse effects at all.

Who comes up with these ideas? Ford needs to stop dealer scalping before they do this. Also, can you say "water leaks?"

Very excellent. Hell yea. I've been chanting & screaming "give the Mustang a moonroof" since the beginning! Ford finally heard me.
Now for my next chant & scream: "give the mustang 3.5L V6 option instead of that little truck engine." (As reliable and as torquey as the 4L may be, horpsepower & MPG wanted)

Well do remember HoosierHero that the 38k Challenger is for the SRT-8 (top model). When the R/T and V6 come out they should be priced closer to the Mustang (I hope). Also the Mustang GT500 is priced just above that at what 41k. Also as much as people driving their SRT-8 Challengers may think they can run with vettes they really can't (sorry to burst their bubbles) but where the real rivalry will lie is between the GT500 vs SRT-8 vs SS/Z28 (whichever t-model is). Muscle vs Muscle. The Vette is agains the Viper so that's another category. But I like the idea of the glass roof, and yeah the more Mustang incorporates design details from the Gugiaro concept the more I may decide to like the Mustang.

Why not a glass floor?

“Available on V6 and GT models starting next summer, the $1,995 glass roof option gives Mustang buyers a convertible feel with hardtop all-weather driveability (sic)”

What does that mean? How does a glass roof make the car more “drivable” in the snow?
“Over the past few years, Ford has released several different variation of the Mustang — including the Bullitt – to keep interest in the nameplate going. “

Subject-verb agreement aside, this is a puzzling graf. Why does Ford need to “keep interest in the Mustang nameplate going? It’s a Mustang! Cut production severely, I say.
Impulsive: I could be wrong, but it seems the 1991 MR2 came out of town in late ’89.

CA36GTP: I think the Mustang should maybe keep the live axle, and Ford should develop an IRS cougar with only the No. 1 engine as a choice. I can just see the manual roller failing.

golf4me: I never got sunroofs.

johnnycanuck: “How about a glass hood instead?” “I'm sure the guy next to me at the stoplight in his SUV would rather be looking down at a nicely exposed Mustang V8 than staring at the top of my follicly challenged scalp.”

Good one.

Driven: “The reason the mustang numbers are off is they flooded the market. “ That’s almost certainly the case.

golf4me, if done right you wont be burnt under a glass roof. Mercedes has panoramic glass roofs for years. The glass has heat rejection technology along with UV ray blocking. I don't feel any heat, get sun burnt or see interior fading in my car. Its not just a tinted window - its something built into the glass. Lets hope Ford will be using whatever MB uses on their SL55's.

Why would you even compare the Mustang to the Challenger? At 38k or so, the Challenger seems to be more in the Corvettes class! Mustangs are great for what they are- 25k, 300 horse, old school fastbacks.

The reason the mustang numbers are off is they flooded the market. There have been 15 mustang models in 3 years. When you see a new model every three months (the last one was the bullit announced less than 3 months ago) you get tired about seeing & hearing about them. No one cares anymore. Ford needs to focus on new models and not another version of the same car.

CA36: my 'commuter coffin' is an '06 Sebring 2.7 and though by no means the most exciting lump in the world, when I open the hood lo and behold the engine and all it's glorious parts- injectors, exhaust runners, even '2.7l DOHC 24 Valve' stamped on the valve covers- are there to be seen. NOT on 6 square feet of plastic (which, by the way, is what you'll find hiding the 2.7 on the '07 Sebring).

I like to look at my engine. And I'm sure the guy next to me at the stoplight in his SUV would rather be looking down at a nicely exposed Mustang V8 than staring at the top of my follicly challenged scalp.

Although I have to admit the glass roof might be good for staring down other things when a member of the fairer sex is behind the wheel.

That's actually an interesting idea, Johnny.

Of course, you know it'd get screwed over by a ridiculous Cadillac-sized engine bay cover.

How about a glass hood instead? That might attract more enthusiasts than secretaries.

Veda, I definitely agree, as long as it's not sat on the current platform. That would just ruin the whole thing.

A regular sunroof would have been nice. One of the few things preventing me from wanting a Stang in the first place. Every sporty car should have a sunroof. I want something that opens for crissake. Not something that's gonna burn me like an ant under a magnifying glass. I don't care how much you tint it, it's still gonna be HOT...especially here in the Southwest.

Because honestly, they could give the Mustang 600hp, and I still wouldn't trust it.

I think the whole platform needs to be ditched and rebuilt. If Ford wants to stay alive after losing a decent chunk of the "muscle car" segment (one of few things keeping it alive), there needs to be a next-gen Mustang by 2010.

I think it's a given that there will be a substantial makeover. I was thinking of power train needs.

Mustang stands no chance of competing with Camaro and Challenger with just tweaks.

Has been offered aftermarket for a while. Thought it would wind up in production/option. Timing is good with the other muscle cars coming - but tweaks and engine choices will be everything.

Must be those special LLN time travel powers. Must've borrowed them from Motor Trend's new model prediction team. Oh yea, they're always wrong.

Mustang doesn't need a revision, it needs a redesign at the platform level and go up from there. Goodbye live axle, goodbye SOHC, goodbye shitty V6, new interior, the list goes on. The only good point the Mustang has is price, at least for the GT model.

Glass roof is obviously inspired by the Italian concept. But seriously, a manual roller? That's absolutely pathetic.
