oh yeah, they’ve been saying this for a while now. they decided to come with the edge (it means nothing in portuguese, as someone asked) because they’ve just stop selling explorers, the euro focus is coming this year too (sorry americans)…and the fusion is a great seller, beating the chevy vectra and the sentra (far from the civic and corolla though). the competition for the CUV is the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage twins, they sell like water. and lp640 should watch less tv. most of the bad press brazil gets come from RIO, and only some parts of rio favelas, not the whole country. you should visit the jardins neighborhood in são paulo, or oscar freire street (considered one of the best shopping streets in the world). or the beaches in NE (in salvador, recife, fernando de noronha, etc). you live in england, right? i suppose i should think all places in england are as dangerous as nottingham, where my dad was mugged. i’m sure you’ve never been in brazil, by the stupid comment you made.

Actually they don’t make the Ford Edge in the US, they make them in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. The thing I can see them changing would be a few things on the edge before they could sell it down there, like adding rear fog lights, and amber turn signels to meet the international standards. But it’s a good idea non the less.

The Edge is a fine vehicle. It sells well here with little or no problems. They now have some capacity in the production schedule due to slowing in the US economy, and this vehicle will sell in numbers that make sense for Ford. And yes, it is bad news for those who hate Ford, they are popular in Brazil and central america. This plan keeps Fords selling and profit coming in for an US BUILT VEHICLE….is that all bad?? Maybe unemployed factory workers here in the US makes some of those here on this forum happy. Bottom line is, we need all car companies to succeed somewhat in order for forums like this to exist. Not everyone here wants to drive a Toyota.

I actually saw EcoSport in Aruba a year ago. Very attractive tiny SUV. I thought it could sell in US if build well.
Brazil is the pioneer in biodiesel technology and government mandated mileage restrictions are quite severe. I wonder what will propel Edge there.
This article suggest interesting question. Ford lost money last year. I don’t know how much but it is a publicly known fact. They mortgaged all their hard assets to raise liquidity and before aforementioned losses they had 23 billion dollars (no more). Where they plan to get 1 billion for Brazil in the next few years? They also aiming for India and China. Not to mention they will not plan to be profitable this year and will have to dip into their cash.

I find it interesting the U.S. has no problem sending U.S. car’s and trucks all over the world, and Mark Fields (AKA. Jackass) says our plan is to use our global products strengths to accelerate the introduction of more products that people really want. What a crock of shit!! If that was the case why don’t they send some of those euro fords over to the U.S.!!! Thats what the people really want. Right??
