Ford will sell Jaguar and Land Rover within the next two months, a new report finds. Just last week, Ford announced it would push back the deadline for final bids, but has apparently since sped up the selling process. The bidding process has also faced challenges caused by a slumping credit market.
In an interview with the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, Ford’s European boss, John Fleming, revealed that the new owner of the luxury brands — Ford will sell both marques in a package deal — will be known within the next two months and that negotiations with bidders are “very advanced.”
Leading candidates to buy the luxury brands include Tata, One Equity Partners and even Cerberus — the new owners of Chrysler LLC.

Perhaps this will allow Ford to develop some new in-house luxury offerings.

Ford needs to sell the brands so they have a downpayment for the UAW private equity account.

Jaguar was a basket case that should have died, Ford poured $Billions into it, and lost it all.
Land Rover was in much better shape, but still sucked $$$.
Jacque Nasser should be tried in a court of law and found guilty. He and FoMoCo board are all idiots.

Cerberus should buy them: Then Chrysler could have a luxury division for both cars and trucks (a la Cadillac and Lincoln).

I think that LR and Jag are better off without Fords poison. That new XF is a winner If Ford is smart they will still hold on to a piece of Jag . I do agree that now they can use the money to build Lincoln and maybe make some new Mercury models or just do what GM does and import the Euro models, just don’t call it a “breakthrough”
That Euro Mondeo would look good with Mercury skin on it

Cerberus is probably the best fit, Jag and LR would fit in nice with Chrysler. I’d wager VW isn’t likely, mostly because the VW auto empire is probably big enough (and VW sales have been down) and Jag runs up against Audi’s offerings. Porsche is probably not likely for the same reasons–it’s heavily invested in the VW and would also be developing competitors for Audi and its own Panamera.
Regardless, it’s smart of Ford to cut loose these marques, so it dedicate itself to making the Ford brands profitable.

and since this is about ford stop bringing your poison into every thread, land rover and jag did well undwr ford, hopefully a british equity firm can put them back into british hands, especially since the germans already screwed land rover over once, all they will do is sell the rest of the rights off to china.

Yeah, what Scarface said.
Tata seems to be having great success already in Los Angeles with their larger cars. A friend of mine just came back and said he saw lots of nice big tatas.
Sorry, couldn’t resist.

Tata makes their own things now (I refuse to call them cars).
Cerberus needs more debt like hole in the head. They need time to sell Chrysler by pieces in order to make money. When did private equity was interested in 5 year recovery plan?
I don’t believe they are fit for Porsche/Audi/WV group: what products do they need? Not a sports car, SUV or luxury moniker (they do own Bently and bunch of other super names which need nice auto bodies filled with technology the group already has.
Which probably leaves French auto companies, Chinese money with broken factories and lead paint and Indian “wonder mobiles” because Tata makes load on money in software outsourcing and other industries.

Ford should sell its other brands like Mercury and Lincoln which make some of the worst cars on the road. When Ford is only left with Mazda, I hope that Ford will bring its European cars to the United States as they are significantly better than what they offer there.

Cerberus doesn’t have the scratch to do the deal right now. Maybe after they reduce the Jeep lineup to two models and shut down Dodge.
I bet the Chinese snap up LR / Jag. They’re suckers for Western luxo brands that are past their peak.
Why anyone would want to assume responsibility for some of the silliest, worst-built, poorest-value-for-money vehicles on the planet is beyond me.

Sunshine, you are on the right path: Ford should sell itself. Then there would be a ray of hope for the company. 5% of the stock pull 60% of the vote. This is their major problem and there is not a company in the world that can overcome it. The board has to guarantee that those votes belong to Ford’s clan first and stability of the company second. To add salt to the injury the family is far from brilliant: too much inbreeding between Fords and Firestones. They make West Virginia cousins look normal (no offense intended for the fine state of W. Virginia or it’s cousins and sisters and brothers it for comparison purposes only and you ya’ll look great in comparison).
The company and it’s governance is anachronism intertwined with nepotism. Those disease as curable as AIDS and Britney’s motherhood.
