The 2010 Lincoln MKS will mark the debut of the 3.5-liter turbocharged and direct-injected V6 engine flying the EcoBoost badge in Ford ’s line-up. Honeywell International will supply the turbochargers for the engines, it was announced on Wednesday. The automaker has committed to eventually produce 500,000 cars using EcoBoost engines annually, which makes this a lucrative contract for Honeywell.

The twin-turbocharged V6 is said to provide V8-like power with V6-like fuel economy, and will make at least 340lb-ft of torque in the MKS. Horsepower is expected to peak at 300 in the MKS, but other applications of the engine, such as in Ford ’s F-150 trucks, could sport as much as 350hp and 390lb-ft of torque.

As Ford tries to cut costs, the EcoBoost engine is expected to be used in a wide variety of Ford’s products, including the next-generation Mustang pony / sports car.

The EcoBoost engines represent just one of Ford’s attempts to cut the average greenhouse gas emissions of its vehicles by 30 percent by 2020.
