Ford truck diesel engine supplier to idle plant

05/23/2008, 1:48 PM

By paulee

The Indianapolis-based International Truck and Engine Corp. plant that supplies diesel engines for Ford’s F-250, F-350 and F-450 and Super Duty truck will temporarily close, due to the automaker scaling back production of the full-size trucks. Yesterday, Ford announced even more cuts, though those did not have any bearing on the engine supplier’s closure, which starts today.

The supplier was already due to close for maintenance in the first two weeks of July, according to company spokesperson Roy Wiley in an Automotive News report. While it’s not known if the supplier will take the time to perform the maintenance now and remain open in July, it is doubtful, as the decision would be a last-minute one. The plant supplies Ford’s Louisville, Kentucky truck plant, which builds the F-series pickup trucks.

They wouldn’t have to idle the plant if they woiuld just switch over to making something practical and relevant.

It doesn’t matter, as Ford is close to releasing their in-house built Diesel powerplant anyway.

And it’s about time too, as Ford has been relying on a company that could give a rates ass about the quality of their powerplants, or the companies they provide them for.

Bet this is giving Ford more incentive to speed up their Scorpion diesel testing to put into production

Why is a the Chevy Duramax so simple under the hood???
The Ford diesel is an enormous monster of wires and tubes and pipes and coolers?
And that front end is uugggly.

The VT365 is a great running engine, just had issues with the injectors, which came from an outside supplier.

Madcapp- I’m not sure what you mean by practical and relevant when your talking about the Super Duties, but ok….

Some of the best, most useful pick-ups on the road. Why most people need something that large is debatable, but the new engine is excellent and it’s a very resilient, capable truck.

Is an F350 Dualie really meant for Joe Blow who wants to look cool? If he’s got the green, then yes, it’s relevant to him. The reality is that the vast majority of owners of these trucks need these trucks. They are a small, but profitable, portion of the truck market. The fact that Ford is idling all 2008 truck production over the summer is the reason why they are cutting back on these engines, not a lack of relevance in the market place. When supply is outstripping demand, you lower supply to bolster your sale price and get rid of excess inventory. This is precisely what Ford is doing.

A big loud F350 is the ultimate truck for the guy who’s scared **** of coming out of the closet. What better way to prove to your fellow men that your not gay by driving a giant truck with lots of chrome on it lol. Instead of “super duty” on that big manly grill, it should read “not gay”

moto-racer13, most of the guys who buy those trucks actually use them for heavy work, and you just saying such things makes you look stupid.
