Ford won’t skip product overhauls or leave old cars on the market as it has done with the Crown Victoria going forward, says one Ford insider. “I think we are done letting products wither on the vine, so I don’t think we will Crown Vic the Explorer,” the source told Business Week. While the Crown Vic is clearly Ford’s worst example, a similar problem has hurt sales of the Focus. Ford skipped a whole cycle redesigning the compact car, and, as previously reported, it finally caught up to them. The Leftlane Perspective: It’s good to see “Crown Vic” is a verb at Ford. Hopefully they realize how important it is to avoid this mistake going forward.

I thought the CV/Grand Marq was a best seller. My brother in law has a CV and loves cruising around scaring the sh*t out of other drivers!

Best seller because the cops use em. They’re horrible cars, underpowered and they can’t go more than 120, not too good for chases. The “V8″ needs replacement Badly. Typical American car, good enough so keep building it, and the government will keep buying it.

Bollocks, my lifelong goal is to one-day aspire to be as sophiticated as you european bretheren.
I have to say that I think they need to do something nice for the cops over there (ie. the cars), I mean, they are out there going after armed criminals but they aren’t allowed to carry a gun… hazard pay must be through the roof for them!

The crown vic is horse ****. Cops ought to get the last generation of every car, so the few people that do buy them dont feel like complete assholes. I cant even look at an Expedition anymore thanks to the cops. I **** my pants every time i see one.. even if it is just a soccer mom.

In Australia we have Holden’s and Ford’s as cop cars. Both V8
We also use them as undercover cop cars and we also have highway patrol Ford’ XR6 Turbo’s and Holden SS which are fantastic cars.

I’m still a Crown Vic fan. That’s right. I said it! Used to drive an 84 (and called it Biff Webster). Pops used to drive an 88, and now I’m in a 90 Continental. Granted, the newest Vic style was nice in 98 when it came out, it was underpowered. Very underpowered.
BUT,
The Marauder VT was a different story. I believe they put the stock 4.6L V8 in there and added the VT modificaitions (Turbo, computer mods, exhaust etc.). With the VT pack, it pulled 0-60 in 5.7. That’s pretty damn impressive for a fullsize. The VT package can be added to the Vic, Marauder, or even Town Car. Which means, if you take the 5.0L engine from the police version, which IS much more powerful than stock, throw on the VT package, you’re probably looking in in the STS-V category. I wouldn’t doubt, better!
..and you can scare the **** out of people on the road. But, me… If I felt like throwing down the cash, I’d throw the entire package in a Town Car and call it “Beauty IN the Beast”.

Actually in London where I am from they tend to use a variety of cars such as Mercedes C class and E class, BMW 3 and 5 series any SUV and Mitsubishi Evo 9/Subaru Imprezas. They also have one Lamborgini Gallardo for motorways

I’ve had four Crown Vics since 1990, all used, and for my money they’re still the greatest thing on the road. Each one I’ve had has been better than the one before (’84, ‘90, ‘97 and ‘00). If you want speed, there are more powerful versions of the 4.6 that can be dropped in. For ride, handling and reliability, they can’t be beat.
