Also in that article, Newsweek reports that in 2010, the are going to re-change the naming convention of all Furds since the Fusion is so successful.

The models will be the Fusoid, the Fusilli, the Fuscort, and the Fuscatron. Plus a rumored hot rod to be called the Blown Fuse.

Once again, we see how stupid Ford with their American customers. They give us their worst crap while letting the rest of the world have all the fun. They refuse to give us the European Focus, and if you look at the interiors of the Falcon and Fairlane in their Australian lineup, you see what we're missing out on. If they put the interior of one of those two cars in the Lincoln Zephyr and gussied it up with a bit of wood trim, maybe some Lexus customers would even consider the Zephyr. Instead, they play the whole 'American pride' game as why they can't give us what their foreign design studios are putting out. They're only shooting themselves in the foot. It's time that they say "screw our dignity and pride, let's retake some market share and get some profits." That's the only way to compete in this business. Since the domestics have refused to do that while continuing to bleed money and market share, they can watch their own sales slip away. You have to play to what the customer wants, not what you want. Right now, customers don't care all that much about American pride. The younger generations especially don't care.

again, another story of an american auto company designing a car for now that will come out tommorow. When the time this new RWD sedan comes out, there will be a new trend that they'll then play catch up to. If Ford was smart they'd see how they're premium divisions make a profit for the parent company, by building cars with an uncompromised vision. The new Jag XK was made to go out after BMW and Mercedes and that's what its doing. The LR3 was made to be the best offroad SUV, and it won accolades of critics like Motortrend and is seeing very strong sales. The cars don't have to be premium. Take the new Miata "MX 5", its not the fastest sports car but its was never meant to be. It was designed to be fun to drive and economical, not to be a family offroading super car with huge trunkspace. Mazda (partly owned by Ford) builds a hugely successful Miata because it was designed to be what it was supposed to be. Ford better learn from its own companies to build cars with a DAMN FOCUS in design! Funny to say focus because I still can't concieve why they won't bring the new Focus Convertible-Coupe desgined by Pinnafarina. No other big three has a production ready hard top covertible. But no, Ford doesn't want to set a trend in the States, it must follow, and that is why its where it is.

Sharply criticized? Who wrote this article. What planet have they been on? Ford was the only domestice manufacturer to not abandon RWD platforms (Town Car, Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, Mustang, LS, Marauder) in the 1990's and early 2000's. Now GM and Chrysler have hopped back on the bandwagon...whoopee!?
