That's because American compete in stupidity. Oh we had our car 2 years lets get a new one because that is already out of style. If you really think about it Brendino Cars are like clothes or a fashion statement to show your contemporary and with it! ;)
Affliction your an idiot. The problem isn't too many dealerships its having the right quality product at the right price when people are willing to buy it. Its a very simple economic equation, but if the guys @ the front office @ Ford are shooting paper clips @ each other and only coming out with fad sports cars and only changing the F-150 then Ford loses out. And should. They must have been watch the Movie Dumb and DUmber for the last ten years and doing nothing,

And I think xyunya said it best in that Ford has been delinquint bring the right car to the market. Hopefully that will change by 2009 with the Verve or is 2010. It better be soon. And I think Ford is already behind the eight ball in the electric vehicles. I Think and yes Pun intended they will regret having sold Tbink! Electric car brand division off to Swedish Investment firm a few years back. That was one division they should keep! How dumb can you be. Think! will be over in 2009 and Ford just to Put you on Notice if gas prices rise substantially then Twin-Force won't save enough for many consumers fleeing IC Engine vehicle and flocking to electrics. THink will be one of the companies over here next year and yes I will be looking. Cause one guess what I ain't paying $5 or $6.50 a gallon. I will buy a Think! car- instead.

Twin Force will work only if gas prices climb moderately that mean between $4 to $5.50 a gallon. If it goes any higher Electric I guarantee you people will get one! in Masses! Save yourself. Buy one now the end is near I tell you! Repent you Gas guzzling fools lamo :)

One last note on Dealership they should be totally Company owned for professionalism. I'm sorry. But the crud running most dealerships is pathetic and the types of people selling cars are usually down on their luck everywhere else and some are just plain scum bags. What I say to those buying a car really spend time with your sales person before giving away your hard earn Monthly Check to whatever car make you like.
In fairness to them don't beat a salesperson up unjustifiable and then again don't be taken advantage by one either!

xyunua - your point is fair enough, but is there any car that sells more than 750,000 examples worldwide? Australia only sells about 1 million a year TOTAL and I know that Europe isn't as auto-happy as Americans are. I bet the Camry doesn't even do that well worldwide.

As for the cricket...maybe the 20/20 will spark some interest in the states. Eight hours for a day match is too long for our American attention spans, let alone the five day test match!

Johnnycanuck, Ford does makes a decent truck, but with cars it is just not making any headway in US, perhaps it is better in Canada. They are OK in Europe compare to other European cars (courtesy of Volvo parts bin) and reading this site they are OK in Australia. But in Australia they are old RWD platforms, which are sold only there. Crown Vic is literally older then most participants in this forum, Taurus was here then wasn't now is, but it is size of Crown Vic and Focus is really 12 years old (or slightly more). 'Tang is good looking as a retro, but retro was killed by gas crisis of 70's. Sounds familiar? What cars? And if there are no cars, quality of what?

This is good for Ford. Too often it seems like there's too many Ford dealerships competing against each other for the same population. In Texas we had more than 10 huge Ford dealerships within a 5 mile radius, and were all constantly trying to out-rebate, out-discount, and undersell each other. That's why we bought a Honda :o

shaver, if you universe is limited to US and perhaps Canada, then F150 is #1 selling vehicle. Nobody heard of it in Europe and Asia. Just a reminder that more people are watching tennis and cricket and not combined, then baseball.

I would hope to believe everyone's learned the quality lesson. People simply got tired of the 'big 3' and their cars which started falling apart the day you drove them home. Ford seems to have turned the corner.

It shouldn't matter that much how many stores they have now. Toyota still has far fewer and apparently people have no trouble finding theirs.

FORD does have some really good cars: Flex, Fusion, and Edge.
BUT, if they didn't put the quality into these cars they are doomed to die a Chrysler slow-death.

I guess it is called a progress: not that many car models to sell, fewer customers and dealers.

It's always good the see an American company heading in the right direction, even if it's economic hardship that forces them. Give them a break, I am sure they will grow to be a much better company than they were in the past.
