Stupid Ford dealers are marking up the Flex by as much as $5000.00!!!!!
And Ford wonders why they can’t sell anything! The ford dealer wanted $45,000.00 for one of these flexes. IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the strong points of the old K-Cars was the turbo motor (probably the only one). They were quite reliable *if you kept up with the maintenance*. However, this is true of all turbos in general.
Interesting they’re rolling these out first in the F-150. Ford is probably trying to avoid the ‘economy engine’ stigma associated with fuel efficient 4-cylinder engines. With trucks torque is king, so the Ecoboost better come with some serious twist. After that, work it’s way down to the Mustang, Taurus, Fusion, and Focus – in that order.

This is really good news for Ford and for Ford customers.

I’ve seen one Flex on the road. It was white, and I almost missed seeing it. However, I thought it looked great.

are we sure that this is no muss no fuss $700 no matter what? you dont have to plunk down some premium package first or include it with some kind of combo or something? its so cheap i feel like its too good to be true. if there is no catch, than bravo ford, that is amazing.

It amazes me how many Ford (Or domestic) haters are out there. A few things:

1. $700 for all that equipment is CHEAP in the car biz. That DI, VVT, Twin Turbos, extra cylinders, good power numbers, good gas mileage, I mean, what ONE thing out of all those wouldn’t be worth $700???

2. This option will be available across the board on all Ford vehicles regardless of model or package. In other words, you can by the ecoboost option on the base or lesser models of the Flex (and others) without having to step up to the top line package which is how it is on BMW’s, Audi’s, Lexus, etc. This will give those on a budget the ability to buy a great efficient motor without having to pay for options they don’t want or need.

3. Those of you who haven’t seen many Flex’s on the road. DUH!? They’ve only recently started selling them nationwide, so I’d expect you’re not going to see them on every corner yet, but it is selling well for Ford. As more get out there, more will see, more will come in and drive, more will buy. Thats how sales works…knuckleheads. =)

I complained that prices went up with commodities? I think not. If you’re going to quote me, make sure it was me who said it the first time round.

A $700 premium for a twin turbo engine option really is chump-change. And how is $700 a 10th of most Ford cars cost? Considering this is talking about the F-150, show me a new one with an average price of $7000. That’s not going to happen.

And since we’re talking about BMW (though I never did) let’s look at what their turbo model carries as a premium.

128i 3.0L I6 = $28,600 USD (MSRP)
135i 3.0L I6T = $34,900

Look at that. A $6,300 price difference for a turbo model. This for their lowest model, and pretty typical for any car maker. (the mini charges $3,451 for a turbo)

All you domestic (Mexican/Canadian) humpers need to stop being hypocrites. When BMW,MB, Lexus, etc. all raised their prices because of raw material costs, you guys started complaining about the 300 dollar increase. Now, since its a ford, 700 is chump change? Realize that is at least a 10% premium on most ford cars (what they actually sell for at dealers, not MSRP)

Is that going to be a $700 on top of the premium for the 5.4 L V8 though? I don’t know if Ford still offeres the 6 cylinder, but you must add a premium for the 4.6L and then another a premium for 5.4L and then another premium for the ECO boost.

$700? That’s chump change. I’ve seen options codes that offer floor mats and map pockets for more.

…..ok.

The K-car only had a 2.2 and 2.5 turbo. That is to say it had ‘a turbo’ slapped onto their normal I4’s. They didn’t have DI, VVT, a second turbo, or two extra pistons. Same inspiration, completely different result.

I have seen ONE Flex on the road. It was decent but Im sure Honda Toyota and even Hyundai will have a better alternative

They can add the $700 on if they amend their standard pricing to drop the Flex by $2,500 and the MKS by $6,000 so that somebody will want them.
