Desertdweller, I'm just curious as to what part of the desert you dwell.

And no, Fusion and 6 sales should not be counted as Ford or Mazda only, but they CAN be counted as FoMoCo sales. However we marketers want to twist it, we can.

What I will say is that lately the domestics have been looking much better, which puts a nice big smile on my face. I really feel the reputation big displacement, heavy handling and subpar interiors will soon be history. I, for one, cannot wait for the domestics to show me what they can do. 2010 is going to be a very good year.

Ford is taking these designs from Europe but actually manufacturing the vehicles in NA. There is no importing to be had.

inline6 - it seems to me that the only reason you joined is to argue. We can add this, subtract that, argue the fact that since a certain vehicle is on the same platform that we should count it as a sale, or whatever. But who cares!!! The Ford Fusion was built on the same platform as the Mazda 6, should we count that as a sale for Mazda or Ford?
Have we forgotten that the article is about the manufacturers bringing vehicles over from Europe? One thing that we need to realize is that these companies haven't IMPORTED vehicles into this country in a very long time. I'm sure that with all the bureaucratic B.S. that they'll have to go through with the government is about the equivelant of talking them into letting us start to import cuban cigars again.

Once again, read this (overly long) thread. GM trucks outsell Ford trucks. Not the other way round.

Ford "trucks" outsells GM "trucks"...but who gives a rats ass! Both companys have been riding a false high for years. Now that the consumers are realizing that not everyone needs a 4door 4x4 that gets 10 mpgs to drive back & forth to work, there will be nothing to brag about. It's about as important as who has the best selling riding lawn mowert, John Deere or Cub Cadet. The trucks are going to be more utilitarian than status symbols in the very near future.

Not if you count the Avalanche, which is also a full-size pickup on the same platform. In MY2004, 86,393 were sold.

Ford does claim to sell more trucks then anyone. Do you know the f150 was the best selling "Vehicle" in the world for the last 4 years. It will prob lose this year but it will come in a close second. GIVE ME A LINK WHERE GM CLAIMS TO SELL MORE. JUST ONE LINK :)

TOZO,

Ford counts the F450-750 in the F-Series sales mix. And Ford can rebadge the Focus as an F-10, the Fusion as an F-30, and the Taurus as an F-50, and GM would STILL SELL MORE FULL-SIZE TRUCKS.

There are too many links to provide, dude.

You should know your competition better than that.

Ford doesn't claim to sell more trucks than any other COMPANY, they claim to sell more trucks than any other single BRAND. That is true, and has been for 32 years.

But GM, as a company, sells more trucks than Ford does, and has every year this decade, and through most of the '90s, '80s, '70s, and before.

Prove otherwise.

PRODUCT IS BRAND, folks. Count them all. An F-Series is an F-Series, unless it is 450 & over, & considered a heavy vehicle.

Sorry, pal. You're wrong.

Ford has the best-selling single-branded full-size truck. But put Chevy and GMC's nearly identical trucks together, and GM sells more.

That's just the way it is.

Facts are facts. Prove your point if you can.

32 years and counting. IF GM COULD CLAIM IT THEY WOULD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY DONT, Because its un-true. Dont you think if gm out sold ford in the truck department they would make it known???? Of course they would because they would want america to know. All american companys take pride in being the best in something. Gm is outsold year after year, 32 they havent beat us once

GM's just smart enough to offer the same truck on one platform and market it three ways, two as Chevrolets, and one as a GMC.

So GM is producing one basic truck that outsells the F-Series, which is two different trucks. And, as of June, they've sold 130,000 more units than Ford has in the last 9 months.

For MY2007, GM sold 164,045 more trucks than Ford did. In 2006, they outsold Ford by 43,500. In 2005, GM outsold Ford by 107,542. In 2004, the spread was 59,077. In 2003, it was 166,482.

The Sierra is GMC's version of the Silverado, so why can't you count it. If you mean Ford doesn't have an equivalent because it's not on the same level, you got that right. ;) And if the Avalance was about 37,000 units, that means Ford still looses as you would put it.

Chester, ihustle is saying that Ford outsells GM in full-size pickups. They don't. I've shown that.

Thing is, Ford's numbers are technically accurate, but only because they count the F-150 and Super Duties in that mix. The problem with that is that the Super Duties are built on a completely different (read: much older) platform than the F-150 is built on.

The Silverado, Avalanche, and Sierra are all built on the same platform, as are the Silverado HD and Sierra HD.

The truth of the matter is, Ford doesn't make the best-selling truck. GM does, they just market it in three versions under three different brands. What, are you going to say that the GMC Sierra doesn't compete with the F-Series?

If they do, then Ford does have an equivalent, the F-Series.

What are the sales numbers for F150+F250+F350? and what are CHEVROLET sales for Silverado 1500+Silverado 2500+Silverado 3500? Ford doesnt have the equivalent of Sierra or Avalanche so they should not be included in the count. Thats like saying Burger King sells more bacon cheese burgers than McDonald's.. McDonald's doesn't even have bacon cheese burgers but McDonald's does have regular cheese burger and it outsells BK's cheese burger.

So my point is.... Ford wins so shut the hell up I-6

Have you learned nothing, ihustle,

GM DOES SELL MORE FULL-SIZE PICKUPS (614,000>484,000) than Ford. It's just that the Chevrolet brand is about 20,000 units behind the Ford brand.

So sit down and shut up. When was the last time a Ford won truck of the year? When was the last time a Ford truck won an automotive comparison test?

Chevrolet's pickups have proven to be more highly rated by every auto publication, they get better fuel economy, and rank higher in the quality surveys.

That's just the way it is, my friend. And I don't work for GM, a GM dealer, nor do I own a GM product.
