Ford’s new F-150 to come with trade-in incentive

10/14/2008, 10:44 AM

By Andrew Ganz

Ford’s redesigned 2009 F-150 pickup will launch soon into a tough pickup market with a unique trade-in rebate. Prospective buyers who are current pickup owners can choose from a $2,000 “bonus” added to the value of their trade-in or they can take advantage of 6.9 percent financing – not especially low, by any means, but likely a sign of things to come in the industry.

Ford’s crosstown rival, Dodge, is launching the all-new 2009 Ram with a $1,000 rebate, a move industry analysts wouldn’t have dreamed of just a year ago when the cash-cow pickup market was strong.

Ford’s truck marketing chief, Doug Scott, told the Wall Street Journal about the unique incentives yesterday. It is unclear just how broad the trade-in “assistance” will be and if it will eventually apply to those looking to move from a car or SUV into a pickup.

Look here for Leftlane’s driving impressions of the redesigned F-150 later this week.

umm people should get $2000 on their trade in no matter what… if you want to go from a car to a pickup then youre probably going to need some persuasion these days

A4,

This is a $2,000 bonus. So if the book or trade was $10K, then you would get $12K worth of trade in value. See, truck trade-in value right now sucks. So this would really help people moving from a truck to another truck.

I don’t think any amount of rebates is going to help the pickup market. Those days are over Ford… even if gas does get down to around $2/gal… people have learned their lessonn

yeah thanks i got that part but my point is, if you are debating about trading your car in for a pickup youre going to need every push you can get cause chances are your car is going to get significantly better mileage and unless your a contractor or something of the sort you probably dont need a truck. You can put a trailer hitch on a TDI jetta and tow a good 3000lbs.

and as the article says you only get the $2000 if you are trading in a truck.

Oh yeah, this will have them forming a queue at the dealership finance office. Maybe they should throw in a free sleeping bag so you can camp out until it’s your turn.

Old news… Ford has been doing this for years with it’s leasing customer, and yes fast-lane-buyers do apply… come down to store and I’ll hook you-up, but I can’t say who I sell for, -red-tape- but ask me and I’ll tell you on the side…you know what I mean….

Yard Dog, you can tell us who you sell for. You’re somewhat different than some of the other sales people that have “graced” these pages. At least you don’t just blindly tout one brand or one type of car. You seem interested in the betterment of all car makes, with a bit more enthusiasm for the American makes. This is good.

An old shell game
Any floor manager worth his salt will just knock down the price of the trade $1k-2k, and any money left up in the finance office.
Dealerships LOVE ploys like this.
It looks like the customer wins, but the dealer really has the power all along.
Will Ford buyers buy it.
I’m not impressed by this truck, and the days of getting 700-900k sales are over.

i own an f150… im liking the new ones… but my gf WILL NOT let me get another one… Damn her, damn her damn her…

and Dr. Fill, if one were to be very adept in the art of car buying, one would get around their attempts to lower the trade-in/raise the sticker price… but for all those other people that don’t know how to buy a car, ur right – “Any floor manager worth his salt will just knock down the price of the trade $1k-2k, and any money left up in the finance office”

Although the trucks do look nice, it’s not much of a deal. The financing is high and the $2000 incentive – When I got my new 2002 model, I had to pay more than that to repair the damages caused by the leaking front window. Since Ford refuses to acknowledge this mistake (and others have suffered as well), maybe I should buy another truck and use the $2000 incentive to pay for any repairs Ford builds into the truck. Of course, I doubt if they deal the base price down like they might with slow sales. So, you probably end up paying the same and have high financing thrown in as well

beatusmongous, I’m sure you would agree with me when i say that i’d rather get some action in the back seat of my old f-150, than get NO action in the back seat of my new f-150

LMAO. How right you are. Nice rebuttal.

But then, there are other “fish in the sea…”
