Fisker has appointed former Chrysler CEO Tom LaSorda to its board of directors as vice chairman. He will also serve a day-to-day executive advisory role and act as chairman of the board’s Strategy Council.

Prior to joining Chrysler as executive chairman in 2009, LaSorda worked at General Motors for 23 years in a variety of roles.

“This is a huge coup for us,” CEO Henry Fisker said in an interview. “Tom is going to be a bit more hands-on than you would expect of a board member. He understands what it takes to be a high-volume manufacturer.

“The company is entering a new stage of growth, to which Tom’s strategic vision and experience will be vital. His appointment sends a strong statement about the future direction of Fisker Automotive as it becomes a global car company.”

LaSorda joins former Ford executive Richard Beattie at Fisker, who was appointed as the head of global sales and marketing at the nascent automaker on Wednesday.
